Ortiz is seriously overrated, most fighters are to be fair but Ortiz is so over hyped it actually hurts. Firstly he is a proven drug cheat, failed tests, therefore drug cheat. Ortiz is still dining out on that Jennings KO, since then he has done nothing, absolutely nothing of note. Got dropped multiple times and stopped by Wilder, before that was dragged the distance by Scott and dragged 7 rounds by Dave Allen ffs, 87 year old Tony Thompson went 6 rounds with Ortiz.. Where is this "monster"? Because since the last time he failed a test and cleaned up his act he doesn't look that frightening. Coincidence.. I think not.
All the Yanks on here trying to make out that Ortiz is the greatest boxer of all time just to give Wilders paper thin resume a lift.
thats a good point, I always thought the Jennings win was decent because he went 12 with Wlad. But now you mention it ... who has Jennings actually beat? what did he ever acheive? his highlight was not getting KO'd vs Wlad - that is it. Wilder's best win: Luis Ortiz. Ortiz - career highlight: stopping Jennings. Jennings - career highlight: went 12 rounds with Wlad and lost.
Jennings took the zeros from Perez and Szpilka, and just beat Dimitrenko. Perez is his best win and was in the top ten. He has some other okay wins. I wouldn't say Paker, Whyte, Miller, Pulev, Kownacki, Breazeale, etc. have done much to exceed or, in some cases, equal that kind of resume. It's easily a top ten resume. Even Povetkin's best wins, against Chagaev and Chambers, were ages ago.
Crazy how three years and a month ago everyone was saying Jennings was a top 5 HW who would destory Wilder and now everyone is saying Ortiz has no noteworthy win. In fact, up until about a year ago, many of these same people were saying Ortiz was the Boogeyman of the division who would beat anyone. Now, he's a nobody. BTW, this is coming from someone who thinks AJ beats Wilder. Just be consistent, people.
Ortiz was AJ's mandatory and got skipped over, Whyte was talking smack and Ortiz called him on it. Haven't heard anything from Whyte after. Parker didn't accept the challenge and Joyce opened his mouth and was also called on it. Haven't heard anything else from him. Meanwhile Ortiz is still knocking out busters and looking good doing it.
The author is a clueless peddler ? And YOU didn't enjoy it ? Turning over a new leaf for the new year , are you ?
The video is spot on ! Ortiz vs Whyte ? Is a 50/50. I would take the younger Whyte but not with total confidence because he really needs a better straight right and it would help here. Ortiz really needs to show he can still be at top level, his last fight is the reason I would take Whyte now.
Joshua didn't even have the WBA belt it was vacant when he fought Klitschko and he couldn't fight Ortiz until he had that belt which then a Mando can be put in place for Joshua ,so a big NO ! ( A big no to everything you posted here actually ) ! Joshua did not skip Ortiz, Pulev was his mandatory FIRST and had been for nearly half a year bc Pulev ran a few times .
I think the reason people were so high on Ortiz after the Jennings win was not due to the win itself, but what they thought Ortiz might go on to achieve. Jennings had just gone twelve with Wlad, and not looked totally terrible doing it, yet gets destroyed against Ortiz. Thompson, who was knocked out by Wlad a short while before, gets even more badly destroyed against Ortiz. That's two common opponents that Ortiz managed to perform better in than Wlad. In and of themselves they weren't astounding wins, but coming when they did they heralded a potentially major new power in the division. That didn't quite pan out, and as such people began to lose interest in Ortiz. By the time Wilder fought him he wasn't exactly coming off a killer win streak, and while I give Wilder respect for beating him, the win in hindsight can't be seen in quite the same light as it would have been a few years before.
