It sounds to me like Hearn fighting for a better strategic positin for his fighter. If they get this for the interim title, then Whyte goes into the Fury fight as the interim title holder, with a better split. It also means if Fury subsequently pulls out (should he get a better offer or ESPN lose a purse bid for instance) that Whyte's status is maintained.
Yeah fair enough I suppose. I think the WBC would make it 50/50. They done Wilder Fury 2 as 55/45 and Fury rejected that. Would he accept 50/50 with Whyte?
I don't know, but Whyte's negotiating position would likely be stronger as the holder of the interim belt rather than a contender for it. For no other reason than if Fury walks, Whyte retains his status as next mandatory for the belt. It's a decent chess move by Hearn.
On what planet would the WBC allow Fury/Whyte for the diamond belt? That discredits Wilder's position as WBC champion and Wilder is their goldenboy. Also, wouldn't a diamond champion kill an undisputed fight? How can there be an undisputed champion when another fighter holds a diamond belt? In saying that; Fury/Whyte for a diamond belt is a big fight and it could work well once the winner immediately fights Wilder. Strange scenario all the same and not something I envisage happening.
