I think it's odd how the moralizers come out swinging against Dempsey here, but ignore that Wilder said multiple times that he would like a "body on his record" and that he was the primary driver in the racial animosity that hung over the Fury fights. I'm not calling their actions equivalent, but it's easy to get into the weeds about character flaws in boxing and it's just a distraction a lot of times.
Do you honestly believe Wilder wouldn’t get to Dempsey with sheer brute force and strength? I appreciate Wilder isn’t the greatest boxer but imo is more than capable of bullying and stopping the smaller man.
He may of done all those years ago, but we are now in 2021. Athletes get bigger, stronger, faster. That is how it goes. That era of fighting was a tough era, as tough as any, but the skills, fitness, nutrition and all of the modern games facilities were not available back then. The fighters may have been as mentally tough, but physically they do not compare to today’s standards.

I think that Dempsey feasted on taller rangier men, and that trying to bully him was generally the road to nowhere. I also think that he was a more dangerous finisher than Wilder.
