Keep in mind that Shavers was able to connect on Holmes in both of their fights.Shavers hurt Holmes badly in the second. Now young Holmes moved a lot more than Wlad.He was also way quicker.Most importantly, Holmes had an outstanding chin and huge heart.
Wlad is clearly the better boxer.However, at a certain point in time Earnie would probably connect and end it. I think Wlad would dominate and stop him in the early going. Shavers would be coming at Wlad to try and land something, and Wlad would be landing a lot of jabs and straight rights. I think it would be a lot less competitive than people think. Too big and strong.
Wlad stops him. I see a lot of posts about Shaver's weak chin. In the end, 4 to 6 rounds, it his stamina that would betray him. Earnie hit like a ton of bricks, but he seldom did it against elite fighters. Wlad is going to keep him at the end of his jab and than lean on him when he manages to get inside. Shavers would know he's out everything so he would most likely start fast and pressure him but most likely gets KO'd trying
The Shavers that fought Holmes and gave Ali absolute hell would knock Wlad out cold. That Shavers was better than Povetkin and Wlad was unable to box Povetkin to a victory. Shavers was decent for his era, but in this era , he'd be a champion.
Shavers cut down a prime Holmes and dropped him twice. The Holmes who was using the best movement and jab of his entire career. Not many men would have survived those knock downs. Shavers being a no talent bum is just falsehood that has been parroted over the years.
