Apparantly he has ''top consideration'' to fight Cotto on the 12th of March, ahead of K-9, Martirosyan and Rigoburto Alvarez. Manny Steward said last week that Miguel had been given these four names to pick from.

To be honest, I want NONE of these fights. In Wolak's only real step up he was beaten by Ishe Smith(granted a good fighter but not a top-level fighter) and I think Chavez Jr would have beaten him handy enough. Bundrage has a belt but other than his win over a shot Cory Spinks he hasn't really done anything either. Alvarez, yeah. And Martirosyan is very unproven and looked VERY fortunate to beat a past best Kassim Ouma in arguably his best win.

For such a good division I really would have thought that he'd get a fight with someone decent. Even Kermit Cintron would have done me fine(if he has recovered from his ''accident'', that is).

The plan is Wolak or whoever in March, Margarito rematch in June or July and then Martinez at the end of the year. Can't complain with that.

Even so, someone like Cintron would be much better. He hasn't got time on his side and he's already past his best as it is. Why waste time with one of these guys?

I can't find notice of this anywhere. What's your source? Cotto's never been one to take easy options.

Cintron is too risky for Cotto imo. I always thought Cotto was a good style for cintron. To go with that Cintron although a good name and fight carries very little credibility. A better opponent than Wolak of course but too high risk and little reward imo.

Not sure if I can post a link. Go on Google news and look up Cotto and it'll be their. There's a similar one on the general I think with Mayorga's name mentioned.

Why has Cotto only fought once this year.

Well, understandably he missed the start of the year after the Pacquiao fight and he got a shoulder injury which prevented the Chavez fight happening.

Bugger if he is. K9 wouldn't be a bad fight at this stage of Miguel's career. Cintron would be good, but Cintron's never shown world-class power against an elite opponent. And he's a mental disaster, so he'd do something to ruin the fight.

Not sure who else. Martirosyan's a good fighter, but doesn't thrill me. He's the sort that would make for a stinker of a fight.

Plus he's had some really tough fights in the last three years. I think Steward and his team have maybe told him to take a rest. Arum too.

Maybe he's looking for a tune-up before facing Margarito?

Still finding it hard to believe K9 hasn't taken a payday yet. His phone must be ringing non stop

The only thing K-9 realistically offers Cotto is a unification fight, though it would be good to see him get a big fight. I'd like to see Martirosyan actually beat someone first, rather than only be given the fight because he's a TR fighter and has beaten Joe Greene and scraped past Ouma.
