I second that. The way to fight Margo is powershots, like Daniel Santos and Shane Mosley did. Margarito eats defensive fighters. See Sergio Martinez, Joshua Clottey, Kermit Cintron. That's why Mayweather never wanted any part of him, and even retired to avoid him.
Nobody mentions Rahman sticking both arms arms straight out at Lennox Lewis whenever Lennox jabbed in their rematch(from the third round on) Roy Jones used to do it effectively to check his opponent but it got Rahman knocked out.
It was working for him in the 1st Lewis match when he was countering & putting his arms out. Rahman has had some awful gameplans and a disgraceful chin, and a big right hand! Makes for entertaining fights while they last !
How is Leonard's plan against Duran a bad gameplan? He fought Duran's fight yet still put up a great effort, a great fight, and lost by a close but clear margin. A bad gameplan would be: Hatton/Pacquiao Foreman/Ali Mosley/Forrest 1 & Wright 1(if he had a gameplan though he did better in the rematches) Forrest/Mayorga 1 Dirrell after the early rounds against Froch Norris/Jackson Conn in the first fight deciding to trade with Joe Louis though he was winning Michael Moorer against Tua, Foreman, & Cooper(DON"T stand in front of a puncher!) Mayorga against Trinidad when he elected to stand still and take shots Khan standing in front of Maidana and taking power shots
When I read the title of this thread this fight is the first thing I thought of. I have no idea what McGirt's logic was, except maybe the fight would last longer with his shitty game plan. McGirt's status as a "hot" trainer certainly seems to have cooled a bit.
Good choice. Not only did Marvin have poor gameplan, but more importantly was that Marvin's simply "grew old" in between fights. Former champ Richie Sandoval was the first to notice when at Hagler's training camp he asked "what's wrong with Marvin?".
Foreman -Ali is the worst tactics employed by an ATG. 100 degree heat and high humidity, what does Foreman do? Wing away with huge shots disregarding his defence completely. Lunacy.
