Nah, he could have still went swinging. In many boxing/mma fights, fighters with 1 closed eye still remains fighting. It wasn't a good stoppage imo.

Gatti didn't even protest. His eyes were swollen shut, he clearly didn't want to continue and was hopelessly behind in the fight.
He could have kept going. When he went back to his corner at the end of rd6, he didn't even think about ending the fight. IT was a horrible stoppage.
