Scott Dixon it must be because the other stoppage loss was hardly a valid one and that really would be clutching straws.
Great post, 100% agreed. Lynes looks likely to go onto fight Branco in April, which is a much bigger fight than Ajose. Ajose isnt particularly a big money fight and Colin won't get the recognition for beating Olusegun that he'll get for beating Branco. Had Lynes been Ajose's opponent last friday, Olusegun would have been stopped easily.
Do you know this is the case? I don't usually take much notice of internet sparring rumours unless they are backed up with facts and names - I just get the impression sometimes these things are said to discredit fighters. Your word would be good enough for me though Jeff!
Not sure tbh... Fighters do get hurt occasionally in sparring so could have happened but its not really a big deal. Tyson was floored by Greg Page in sparring I think- means nothing.
What you mean properly sparked or slipped... i've been known to suprise a few  Never a good feeling though in sparring- not for me anyway.
Is there some sort of unwritten code when these things happen in sparring? For instance, is it the done thing to talk about it outside of the gym and beyond those already privy or does it tend to be kept within that circle?
P was properly dropped by a body-shot from 'Sweet' D Mitchell. Pele claims to this day - and it was about a year ago - that it was a slip, but his face registered pain before he touched down. D will spar with anyone; i saw him taking the spar to Tim Witherspoon last year.
I think its pretty unsporting to talk about it outside of the gym- but in boxing a lot of the hangers on are very bitchy so it usually comes out. The only time I was ever floored in sparring was Lee Blundell he could hit and we had some tremendous spars but one time he hit me hard and I thought right 'i'll have some of that' and I put in a pretty decent combination which obviously registered because his next punch was a belting right hook to the ribs which put me down and nearly made me cry.. lol..
Stevie Bendall told me that the hardest he's ever been hit was not by Scott Dann, Wayne Elcock or Sebastian Sylvester - but by Lee Blundell. Stevie said that he was caught by a shot in the opening round and thought: "right, i need to get you out of here as soon as I can." Stevie won in two.
Lee was really underated It would be unsporting of me to put any details on here but I saw him handle some very good pro's and ams very easily in sparring. If only he had more punch resistance he could have done so much more. Quality fella as well... never had the well known trainer or anything like that used to just travel from gym to gym. Loved training with him and owe a lot of the sucess I did have to him.
I've seen plenty of things in the gym, sparring, etc, that i could have reported but haven't. Stories that would make for very, very interesting reading. The Pele story, however, is now common knowledge – mainly because of D’s big trap. Mitchell loves to mention it anywhere he goes: the welterweight that floored the heavyweight.
Bearing in mind that Ajose is not the most marketable fighter in the country- been talented and having virtually 0 fan base... is it really a good idea to brag about sparring sessions? If I were a decent domestic class fighter I would not want to spar with someone who was going to tell everyone he battered me in sparring! I think Olu has created a bit of a PR nightmare on this forum which is a shame because I don't think he is a bad guy and I don't think Ajose is a bad fighter.
Personally I would love a top contender or indeed a world belt holder to underestimate Ajose and fight him. I would love to see Ajose fight Hatton when Hatton fights next. Unfortunetly Ajose is the exact opposite to the type of fighter thses guys are willing to go in against. He has definate skill, good power, can be very awkward and has the ability to cause an upset but also comes with very little hype for those guys to build the fight around. That is why I was disapointed with Ajose's performance against Wright, for me he needed a ko and a special performance to really put his name on the map. At the moment Ajose still needs a couple more good fights against good opposition before people will be willing to fight him. That is why I would love him to fight Lynes. The fight would be good and close and also the winner would be able to make a serious claim for a world title shot. If and when he gets that WBC shot I would very much like to be at ring side to cheer your boy on.
