I think they got more than just me & u into boxing.:yep

All were unique which is why any matchup between the 4 was so special.:deal

70s, particularly the Heavyweights. Just a different class.

 

I guess I have to say 2000-2011 as I never watched a whole lot of boxing when I was young.....other than late 80's and 90's Tyson and mid to late 90's Oscar....I did try to catch most of the SKY fights from these 2 guys back then.

 

Two favourite eras:

For the heavyweights (Ali, Foreman, Frazier etc) & locally middleweight Mundine Snr.

For the middleweights (Leonard, Hearns, Duran, Hagler) and on the local the Fenech/Ellis/Michael era.

 

I voted for the 70's , i guess this was just the era that i tie in with true greatness , i think it's probably when i started watching the sport with interest and a lot can be said about looking back with rose tinted glasses on and i can agree to a certain extent but take Ali for instance ,during this particular decade he started off fighting Jerry Quarry and finished it off fighting Larry Holmes a lot of ATG fighters in that decade and they all fought each other , the heavies are the top of the tree in the sport imo and this truly was the greatest ever decade for them ( well maybe the 30's came close but for me it's the 70's ) . good thread .

 

There was something about the 70's that's for sure Josey.

When Ali fought Frazier the first time the world almost stopped - people on the street without the faintest interest in boxing prior to that were talking about it continually.

 

Yep that's the sort of fight i'm on about , here in the UK even the Bugner ( because we love our Hungarian fighters here ) , and Richard Dunn fights were MASSIVE fights almost as big as the other major fights of the 70's , brilliant time to be getting into the sport .

 

Fully agree, but also add the 2000-2011 era.

How couldn't people be impressed with Pacquiao's acheivements, Floyd's, the Mexican's such as Barrera, Morales, the Vasquez vs. Marquez trilogy (not the 4th ****), Gatti vs. Ward III, Corrales vs. Castillo, Cotto, even late era Kostya, loads of great fighters.

All era's, if you are a serious boxing fan have the benefits.
