I know my current top ten HW list, great hws- 1. Louis 2. Ali 3. Johnson 4. Marciano 5. Holmes 6. Tyson 7. Lewis 8. Dempsey 9. Foreman 10. Liston
Looking at this particular list a bit more closely I think I should replace Evander at #9 with Joe Frazier.
Out of interest, would anyone include either Harry Wills or Jim Jeffries in their top 10 heavyweights of all-time? Both have very good records, Wills has wins over Luis Firpo, Jeff Clark, Kid Norfolk, Sam Langford, Gunboat Smith, Joe Jeannette and Sam McVea. Jeffries has wins over James Corbett, Bob Fitzsimmons, Joe Choynski, Peter Jackson and Tom Sharkey.
Jeffries is just edged by Foreman and Liston in my list, Foreman only because of the comeback, and Liston im not sure why, i think he was very good before he won the title and formidable also, could be Jeffries in there maybe though
I only have one list, and it's composite. So I try to take into account greatness, head to head, skillset, intangibles. Here it is: 1 - Muhammad Ali 2 - Joe Louis 3 - Sonny Liston 4 - Lennox Lewis 5 - Joe Frazier 6 - Jack Johnson 7 - Mike Tyson 8 - Jim Jeffries 9 - Larry Holmes 10-Rocky Marciano ------------------- 11-Harry Wills 12-Evander Hollyfield 13-Jack Dempsey 14-George Foreman 15-Peter Jackson
Wills beat Norfolk ,bu,the Kid was conceding around7inches in height and 36lbs in weight,Clark was 36 years old.Jeffries had a weight advantage of 39 and 47 lbs over Fitz ,30lbsx2 over Corbett similar over Sharkey plus 6inches in height , and over 50lbs on Choynsky.Plus Fitz was 37 and 40 years old,Corbett was 33 and 36 Jackson was an alcoholic wreck allready in the first stages of TB. So I cant put either of them in my top 10.
Thought there would be complications, I couldn't be bothered to check ages or heights/weights though.
Heavyweight: 1. Joe Louis 2. Muhammad Ali 3. Rocky Marciano 4. Larry Holmes 5. Jack Johnson 6. Jack Dempsey 7. Lennox Lewis 8. George Foreman 9. Sonny Liston 10. Joe Frazier
It's not actually my opinion, I personally wouldn't have either top 10 p4p and my knowledge on them is a bit slim which is probably half the reason, was just interested to see if anyone had them in their top 10.
