But Wilder wants to be HEAVYWEIGHT champ, so if anything its working against him as he will have to put weight on now.
I'll be interested to see who wants to be involved in this division, maybe a boycott of it will see it go away, it's a silly idea.
The WBC have stated they ARE now dropping the cruiserweight limit to 190lbs. That's better in the long run IMO to bridge the gap between light heavy and cruiser, but seems a bit unfair on their current cruiserweight champion Makabu who would now need to drop down to 190 to defend his belt.
I'm guessing Makabu would automatically become the Bridgerweight champion or get first dibs on fighting for the belt.
Would this not make more sense? 168 - Super Middleweight. 180 - Light Cruiserweight 195 - Cruiserweight 215 - Light Heavyweight 215+ Heavyweight. Seems more logical to myself both in Names and Weights. A slight increase in each weight as you go up from 12 - 15 - 20lbs. Has to be better, safer and healthier than the current 25lbs jump from 175 - 200.
If there's a world title and shallow competetion there's always going to be a few people willing to pay the fees for the attention. I can't wait to see an obese Middleweight fight a cruiserweight club fighter for the title.
Oh how I hate this name. This also demonstrates what a ****ed up sport this is. The wbc are making up their own weight class for their own financial gain. What wh
It’ll be just another reason to put the words world title onto a meaningless belt. A 220 pound fighter is a heavyweight.
Exactly. They could have brought the Cruiserweight limit to its original 190 LBS. And their new division could have capped off at 210 LBS.
It would be the first time a division has been named after a person. Should be after a great boxer, if the wbc have their way. Imagine Buffer bellowing out this suggestion, it will sound ridiculous!
