To be fair, never fighting at the weight is about as ineffective as you can get Echo what Tony said in that it's not a great time to be evaluating Smith's chances against fighters from other eras. His stock is low based on what is considered to be a below par performance. With Froch we have the benefit of looking across his entire career objectively. Trying not to just look at the Ryder fight, I still think Froch has the ability to drag him into a brawl, where he is very difficult to beat. Skoglund was able to get to Smith repeatedly and turned it into a slugging match. Height and reach are great advantages to have, but only if you are able to keep the fight at range. Froch also had an underrated jab, and Smith doesn't have the handspeed or movement to negate that like Dirrell, Taylor or Groves in the first fight were able to. Smith has good power (regardless of what he showed on Saturday), but Froch had one of the best chins of the era. Froch by points or late stoppage looks the most likely outcome.
Well if you're in there looking uncomfortable against John Ryder's doggedness and determination, then you're in trouble against Froch
Froch late stoppage, Smith would have his moments, Froch had a lot of trouble with far less equipped opponents. But Froch was a step above Smith.
Just compare the quality of Froch's opponents, back to back, in his famed super middle series with Smith's trio of wins in the WBSS. Froch by a long way!
Callum Smith isn’t as skilled as Froch doesn’t have as good ring IQ. He does the same thing over and over again. It is only his size advantage at SMW that has allowed him to remain “undefeated”. As well as the status he has with Hearn (Ryder robbery). Froch would over power Callum Smith and stop him late.
Im gonna think outside the box and say Smith Wins. Froch never faced anyone as big as Smith who would have a size and reach advantage over Froch. Smith knows how to use his long reach to his advantage and keep his opponent at bay and it would frustrate Froch. Also you lot are underrating Smith. Smith is a vicious body puncher and good counter puncher and also Froch struggled against technical fighters. I reckon he'd stop Froch late or win by points.
Don’t see an argument for smith tbh and I’m one the few that rate him. No lover of frock but he would stop him mid to late rounds after a slowish start, the guidance here is a mr groves, who smith was behind to and had one arm,
Froch was a World class amateur not just the stereotype some who didn't know who he was from Adam before the Groves fights are chatting about. Smith, for all his talent and ability, and that's plenty, has got nothing to threaten Froch. I reckon he's Carl's perfect opponent. Good fan's fight. Oh, Froch KO 9.
