Christopher Lovejoy has good size, skill, power, counterpunching skills and is a very good 300 pound boxer. A skilled 300 pound boxer is a legitimate problem for 99% of heavyweights in history. Look what happened the first time Holyfield faced a decent 300 pound boxer in Nikolai Valuev- he lost the decision. Nobody wants any part of Chistopher Lovejoy because they know he is a legitimate threat, a high-risk low-reward fight. AJ has never faced a good 300 pound boxer, that's why Lovejoy would give Joshua some serious problems and probably even put him to sleep. It's a shame that nobody wants that pretty boy smoke.
I know some people may be getting down on him because he is 37 years old and has only beaten one opponent with a positive record. But he is a very young 37 years old, and with the big guns of the division running scared, who is he supposed to have fought? Besides, that one fighter, Jorge Alfredo Leal, is himself one of the division's best kept secrets, and because Leal had only previously lost to injury, there was no blueprint to beat him before Lovejoy came along. I notice that there is no Stiverne fight listed at this time...I hope this is not yet another duck against a man that has become a sort of shadow champion to this division as Sonny Liston was in the 60s. Ike Ibeabucci would be another parallel.
I remember Don King sending him over to the UK to be an "opponent" against a British HW But he ended up refusing to the sign the contract at the last minute, and flying home. I cant remember who it was now. I think it was Dave Allen. Hardly the actions of a serious threat. Even a shopworn Lenroy Thomas was able to beat Allen.
Slightly different event occurred Lovejoy took the fight without Kings knowledge Once King found out he pulled him from the fight 24 hours before the event
Read somewhere that he found out about the Stiverne fight like a week ago on Twitter. King never told him about it, why anyone would sign with King now a days I have no idea. From what I read he has been trying to get out of his contract for years
This post was meant to mock some Ortiz fanboy poster, to be honest I just feel bad for Lovejoy, he's a conman stuck in a con
tired of fans writing off fighters after one loss smhmyhead. Lovejoy will come back stronger and DOMINATE the division for a good 10 or so years.
