Danny felt he had to keep on fighting as he wanted to pay his kids through private school. It was costing him 29k a year.

He's a nice guy and all but that's moronic.

Kids who will do good will do good, regardless if they're in a state, grammar or private school.

It depends where one sources their ethics.

Getting in the ring with someone like 2020 Danny Williams is seriously rolling the dice if you truly believe in your ability. He's a punch bag. My conscience wouldn't allow it. Boxing is a dangerous enough activity as is without such shameful shenanigans being wilfully organised.

Same old story, though. People will only genuinely consider the consequences if they were to actually occur. Someone with solid enough ethical principles could be saving a life by declining.

Yes, I read that. He seems like a decent man, which makes it all the more sad.

    Yes.

That is simply not the case. There's a reason why so many children who are troubled in one way or another revamp their academic performance as well as social and cultural capital by changing institutions, often by entry to private institutions who offer fee exemptions etc.

The fact is that all children should be provided with a suitable environment to learn and develop as people - and the fact is that they are more likely to be provided with such an environment at a private school.

    Well, he fought 4 times in 2019, 3 times in 2018, 1 time in 2017, 1 time in 2016, 2 times in 2015, 6 times in 2014.
He's had some 'unlicensed' fights I think too.

If he's doing this on top of working regular employment, it could be true he's doing it to keep his kids in private school.
But if it's his main or only source of income he'd obviously be better off quitting and getting a regular job.
Because I can't imagine he's getting paid that much to fight.
    And it's very dangerous.

He could do up to 60 hours a week security guard or something, the man who beat Mike Tyson, 12 hour shifts, 5 days, at £15 hour, sitting down, in a lobby of a luxury apartments or a good company.
    There's worse things in life.
.... like getting beaten up by every Polish plumber and Hungarian hod carrier east of Berlin.

    But hey, it's his life.

If you look at that stoppage then all you can feel is deep concern for Danny’s health.

The longer he fights for the more damage he is doing. He clearly has some form of damage he is carrying into the ring these days, as the punches that staggered him were nothing punches.

But then again we have been saying this since that loss to Chisora in May 2010. I remember then seeing a Danny who was absolutely shot and couldn’t take a punch.

Sad sight for anyone who hasn’t seen it. I was training with Danny before his fight with Julius Francis back in 2001, he’s only a year older than me but man he looks in a really bad way now. A man makes his own choices but he needs protection from himself now.

It would be interesting to see a fly on the wall documentary of his life during a fight camp, the fight and then the days after, just seeing how he is mentally and how he behaves and seeing how he can still get up for these fights. I just want to know what's going through his mind and hear it from him.

    So I’ve just watched it.

Williams looks in decent nick physically and facially looks younger than his years.

However I found his introduction while sitting on his stool incredibly troubling. I’ve seen dozens of his fights so know what he looks like, but somehow he did not look like Danny Williams. He looked dead behind the eyes, almost as if his spirit and the essence of the man has completely gone.

I get that that might sound strange or overly dramatic to some, but go back and watch his introduction, I find it quite unsettling. An empty look you’d associate more with Ali and Watson in their later years. I don’t think it takes a genius to surmise that he has a significant case of CTE.

People have been saying it for what feels like the last decade but the man should not be allowed to step foot in a ring again.

Agree should have quit after Fraudley KO in 2006. Taken way too many now.

Where are Williams family? Does he have family? Who is allowing this to happen?

Look, I don't think anybody should be stopped from earning a living but this will end in Williams either dead or in a wheelchair. It's genuinely distressing and depressing.

This is why I think there should be some sort of fund, a BBBofC fund, all fighters sign up when they are licenced and pay maybe one or two of percent of purses, applies or all, from journeymen to heavyweight world champions.

That fund is then used to help fighters who paid in and fall on hard times, not to be abused and lived off but maybe money from the fund could be used to help ex fighters get some education or a course to do a regular job.

There could also be a partnership with a rehab somewhere that helps ex fighters with drug or alcohol problems and that money could help.

Or.. when you sign professional, the BBBofC have a pension scheme, some sort of set up where they take a percent of your purse and you get it back after you retire, so you get it say.. 5 years after you retire and if you are not there to collect it then it can be given to your wife/husband or children, your choice of beneficiaries.

But you get what I mean, because with total respect many fighters come from poor or disadvantaged backgrounds, have a poor education and don't think long term, they don't plan for after boxing and maybe it's time we addressed it so fighters like Danny Williams are not fighting for a few pound coins when they should have retired a long time ago.

Can't believe how bad his balance is, both swinging and when just being hit on the gloves.

The stoppage was really sad, he looks completely vacant and wasn't even really clipped that much.

When you see this, its so true that he really does need saving from his self.

it’s not only about doing good at school it’s about the environment he wants his kids growing up in! I take my hat off to him , I think it can only be a good thing especially with what’s going on in London with the youth of today!
