I need to get around to doing the greatest wins thread on him, but honestly, I just don't know enough on him, so I'm going to have a look for reports of some of his fights. I'm just starting with easy to find ones. I'll see what I can find. Any help will be appreciated.

Well this one was a nightmare to find.

    George Godfrey RTD6 Larry Gains

Buffalo Evening News Tuesday, November 9, 1926
The scheduled ten-round bout between George Godfrey of Philadelphia and Larry Gains of Toronto ended at the close of the sixth round, Gains being unable to continue because of a badly cut lip. The Toronto boxer had the better of the going in the early rounds, but Godfrey's weight began to tell in the fourth, fifth and sixth sessions and Gains tired badly. George weighed 223 pounds, while Gains' weight was announced as 182.
Gains showed a good left in the first, second and third rounds, which forced Godfrey to miss time and again. The latter tried hard to put over a kayo wallop, but Larry was shifty for the towering negro. Godfrey did not have Gains in trouble once during the battle.

I love these topics, reading the original sources can be illuminating. Godfrey II is a particular guy I wanted to research, trying to make sense of his dual reputation as one of the best contenders of his time who often had to wear the handcuffs along with the perception some portray as him being a quitter who fouled far too easily when the going got rough.
