1. DEMPSEY 2. Louis 3. Johnson 4. MARCIANO 5. FRAZIER 6. Clay 7/8 Liston/Holmes or vis versa 9. Jeffries 10. Tunney
The number 1 debate at one point was who was the goat. Dempsey or Louis? Do you think their's any debate between Tyson and Louis?
Top 10, all things considered 1. Muhammad Ali 2. Joe Louis 3. Mike Tyson 4. George Foreman 5. Jack Dempsey 6. Rocky Marciano 7. Larry Holmes 8. Joe Frazier 9. Sonny Liston 10. Lennox Lewis H2H 1. Mike Tyson 2. Muhammad Ali 3. George Foreman 4. Sonny Liston 5. Larry Holmes Don't feel the need to rank the rest after 5 ... Mike Tyson from 1987-1988 was a nigh invincible lion in the boxing ring. H2H, the GOAT. I don't favor any boxer over him during that time frame. Only a few boxers might have a chance, due to stylistic advantages.
Doesn't matter. Tyson was NEVER considered the GOAT or ranked above Louis at any time in his career. Dempsey was.
Dempsey's greatest victory was over a part time boxer with zero amateur experience, who started in his late 20's, had fought 10 listless rounds in the previous 4 years and was 37 years old. Next up is a chinny hype job who went on to be KO'd 10 times in his career. Next up is a guy who lost his title eliminator match to a middleweight, and even tho he had no wins of note at heavyweigh on his ledger got a title shot. Should I go on? And you want to tell me that is the basis for a top 5 heavyweight of all time.
I don't rank him in the top 5 but I certainly wouldn't have any problem with anyone who did. The fact of the matter is, Dempsey was once heralded as the GOAT at one point, even above Louis at one point. Tyson never was. So your argument that Dempsey couldn't be possibly ahead of Tyson is laughable.
