How important is the bag? Really.
Some boxers I know hate it.
    What do you think?
I think it is very important, but I am also very old school, my coach always told me that the bag is very important, only the pads are better.
no comparing to sparring, that is another thing.
What is the most important equipment?
    What do you think? :)

Looking at old footages of SRR and SRL, who picked up a lot from SRR, I think the problem is that modern fighters working on wrong stuff on the heavybags nowadays compared to old timers. I believe most of drills are just confusing and self-contradictory, this is why fighters do not like heavybags.

of course the bags is as important as the rest of the equipment in the gym , you should be working on drills relevant to sparring or competing , try to think its not a punch bag but your opponent ,,,if you get bored you have stopped learning

sorry to bring up an old thread, i dont come around here much. but one of my coaches told me that any bad habits and good habits you have on the bag will show up in sparring. and upon further analysis he was right. so now, i constantly try to correct bad habits and get into good habits and it does show up in sparring. also, i used to train by myself for a long time before i ever stepped foot in a gym. first time i showed up everyone at my gym thought i had a bunch of amateur fights because i had nice hands, but that was from all the time i spent on the heavybag. you can really hone your technique on those things and theyre fun to hit

    Which bag?

They're both very important, IMO, as they compliment each other very well. I could work the speed ball for hours and have as much fun as playing xbox 360. Hitting the heavybag also brings a smile to my face. The speed bag is a bit of a chore, IMO.
