Could Manny Steward, Eddie Futch, or some other high-profile American trainer have turned SNV into something better than he was?

You mean Valuev and Carnera aren't the two most skilled big men of all time?

I think he could have. Emanuel Steward made Andries into a better fighter than he was just adding the jab. Emanuel was so smart at making guys use what they had,, so he would have had Valuev leaning on guys and using that body to wear them down.

Possibly the least athletic champion of all time.

Steward wouldn't and couldn't do anything with this mess.

I'm sure he could have turned him into "something better" than he was in the ring but it would have taken something like a miracle to make him really good.

Valuev just didn't have the athletic goods. Lewis was a very good athlete. Wlad was a great athlete. You need quality clay to throw a a good pot.

Well, I always felt Valuev didn't use his physical equipment enough. He should have been rougher, more aggressive, used his weight. He was never going to succeed at being a giant Jimmy Young.
