considering the sh!tty life Plant has had outside the ring (losing his daughter who was only 19 months old and his mother getting shot and killed by the police) I don't begrudge him having a few easy defences TBH

He had a long talk with Gary Rusell Jr, who has been fighting once a year for the last five years and makes about $1 million a year for about eight weeks (camp and one title defense) of work.

Which is a sweet gig when you can get it.
    • Plant is from Rural Tennessee, outside Nashville.
    • Plant fights once a year, if that.
    • Plant makes $750,000 a fight, which is generational wealth in rural nowhere.
    • Plant still hasn't figured out how to spend all the money he made for his last fight, because there is nothing around him but Dollar Stores.
    • $10 million is beyond the realm of comprehension to him. That's like winning the lottery. And those lottery winners all go bankrupt because they don't know what to do with it.
    • So Plant will stick to the manageable $750,000, once a year gig
    • And Plant will beat one unknown super middleweight (with a lot of consonants but very few vowels in his name) once every 12 months or so until the PBC folds.
    • And that's that.
There are just too many vowels in Saul Canelo Alvarez's name. Plant is looking for more of an Evgeny Shvedenko-type for an annual defense.

Plus, Canelo might hurt himself in sparring. I mean, he hasn't in nearly 60 pro fights. But why train if Canelo might get hurt. No, bring on Shvedenko.

Bring on all the Shvendkos. Just once a year, though.

And, I'm only being slightly sarcastic.

Regardless of his resume up until now, it does not appear that the fight with Canelo falling through was anything to do with Plant - he wanted the fight and agreed to every one of Canelos demands.

Looks like it's Haymon / PBC that has caused the deal with Canelo to fall through. Hard to blame Plant for that IMO.
