Do Jerry Quarry and Ron Lyle become modern day champions

You joking ??? Far fetched, Quarry was a very good boxer/puncher and would be in the mix big time, very good IQ on form

Not as much of a chance as Usyk unifying the division and even that seems unlikely to me

 

I'm sure they'd have won some belt, but wouldn't have been THE champ.

 

Champions? Maybe. The only doubt I have is against Tyson Fury because of his size and style. I'd pick both Quarry and Lyle to beat anyone else in the top-5 right now.

 

Lyle was a beast with power & a chin. I could see Quarry beating the same Stivern Wilder did, so, too Lyle.
Not sure if Quarry beats Parker that won over Ruiz, but it would be competitive down to a SD win.

Lyle might have been a bit sloppy to time Parker, so by bad styles he'd lose to him.

I think they both beat Brezeale. Lyle by KO Quarry by MD.

Wilder eventually catches up to Quarry typical fashion come from behind KO. Because Wilder is chided for bad balance, IMO it overlooks that he doesn't move in any predictable way. At times he will fight moving away as well as laterally which causes Lyle to lunge. Both fighters dropped, but Lyle gets up 3x and loses by decision.

Fury & AJ ...not sure.

 

Maybe in the mid-80s, at their respective peaks. Thomas and Witherspoon weren't exactly infallible "champions".

 

Lyle could be #1 today, how long he'd stay on top if he was is the question. If he belt milked like Wilder, the answer could be a while.

Quarry is too small for heavyweight today, but he'd make a fine Cruiser. I think Usyk beats him, but he's probably the favorite vs everyone else.

The problem is you never knew which Quarry would show up.

 

I've said this a 1000 times . J.Quarry ( And G.Cooney) are some of the most underrated and underappreciated heavyweights in history and each happened to come along at the wrong time. Quarry if his mind was right and he was focused would box circles around Wilder or Joshua. I'd pick Lyle to beat them too, along with Cooney. The problem would be Fury and his size and awkwardness ( Certainly not his skill level).
