Does anybody else get this. Im just getting back into training recently. Had a long 2 hour workout with lots of sparring on wednesday. Went into the gym to workout today (sunday) and couldnt believe how weak I felt. Literally I felt like I had lost over 50% of my strength. For a reference I did 225x10 on the flat bench last week (I was doing it for 15 a month ago), and today did it for 4 reps! I know actual boxing training is my main focus, but I spent all summer trying to get bigger and stronger to be able to handle the bigger guys in sparring, and in a week i've lost months of hard work, it's crazy. How do you guys deal with this.
You think you lost the ability to press 225x10 in a week? atsch Here's a list of reason why you probably missed 10 reps this time. Lack of sleep Anxiety Dehydration Lack of rest in general Loss of mental focus Depression Poor form Poor nutrition Not allowed for enough recovery There's more but there's no point of posting them. Most likely from what you said it's probably down to either lack of rest, poor nutrition and or not enough fluids.
Don't do what is comfortable based on how you feel. Get aggressive, get dominant, get serious, and get it done. I could list countless examples of people I have trained who will be sick, inured, exhausted, dehydrated, or any other thing, and still hit PR's. Hell, there is a local kid who hit a PR on bench press before going to the hospital that night.
If you're pushing 225 for 15 reps, then you are experienced enough to know that you don't lose the ability to press for reps in a short week. Like viru§™ posted, probably due to other things such as lack of sleep, eating poorly or general lack of rest.
ive been lifting fairly regularly since i was 16. i stopped for a while and got really skinny and weak. im 22 now, and figured id bulk up a bit over the spring and summer. ive never had that type of loss in strength in such a short period of time. i just dont find it a coincidence that my strength starts to drop when i start boxing again. i can try and eat more and sleep better, but i gave myself 4 days rest after sparring and i just couldnt believe how weak i was. i will see how things go this week
Similar things happening to me right now too, cuz I just came back from 1 month lay off from boxing and training, so I gained a lot of weight, and whenever I train I feel slow and sluggish. But it'll take few months to get back in shape and into the routine again.
