You could very well be right. I confess I saw that fight only once on cable when it happened. I do recall Hatton looked like he was gonna crumble in that last round, perhaps that tainted my opinion in an otherwise tough competitive fight....that frankly wasn't expected to be THAT difficult.
In spite of the ending, that fight was not a blowout. Hatton gave as good as he got for the first 8 rounds. The refereeing by Cortez was shamefully biased, and, gave Floyd some clear advantages. (Possibly karma for Hatton who got away with murder against Tszyu).
Sounds like you’re talking about what happened in the first round. The time stamp I’m referring to is in the 6th round.
Like I said Floyd outclassed him in every facet of the game. Hatton was never the same again as Floyd took his soul.
The better man won the fight. But I find that if anything, people overlook the success Hatton had. Seems like a lot of little things led to it being overlooked. They only showed replays of Floyd's punches, commentary didn't call many of the shots Hatton landed, and there were some punches Hatton landed that I missed the first time I watched the fight due to camera angle obstruction, or they just happened fast. Also since Hatton got knocked out, some people tend to assume he didn't do much and just got killed. I think the fight was clearly Floyd's for the most part, but Hatton had his moments. Hatton competed pretty well with the GOAT. Hatton beat a lot of B and B minus level fighters, then went right up to facing the two GOATS. He was made to look less good than he really is. For that reason, I feel he doesn't get his just due. I believe Hatton is something like an A minus level fighter who had an unfortunate trajectory.
You are entitled to your opinion however wrong it is which comes across as trying to justify some success you claimed Hatton had in the fight. I strongly disagree! He tried to bring the heat as he normally did but it was very clear right from the beginning there was a genuine wide gulf in class and skills between both guys. On the inside which was crucial to Hatton achieving success in this fight Floyd ****ed him up showing he had the know how to deal with Hatton’s bull rushing tactics proving he was the superior inside fighter. The jab to body in particular and right hands to the body messed Hatton up setting him up for the knockout. The truth is Floyd beat the **** out of Hatton and Hatton was ready made to order.
When did Mayweather "**** up" Hatton on the inside? Mayweather was moreso just being defensive minded on the inside. Thru 7 rounds, the action was something like 60/40 Floyd. Then Floyd took over. The fight had a clear winner, but Hatton give him some problems in the early, mid rounds.
Basically this. Cortez did break them up too quickly for my liking in the early going. When he did allow more fighting in the clinches, Floyd got the better of it anyway. Floyd used his own rough tactics up close, elbows and forearms, open gloves, maybe his head a little, and constantly dug in right hands to the body. He stunned Hatton in the 4th with a 3 punch combination to the head, which was again set up by the right hand to the body. Hatton made Floyd work harder than usual, but was clearly eating most of the clean shots throughout the fight rather than giving them.
I would just like to point out how cringe worthy your posts are in this thread. Dude just wants to discuss Hatton's moments which are there, he took the time to make a damn video. For some reason this makes you so insecure you want to keep shutting it down and insisting this was some type of Tyson vs Spinks one sided massacre...which it wasn't.
Well, I'll say this- Floyd was better on the inside than many expected, but I recall more of Floyd's efforts on the inside being about outmuscling Hatton and positioning/leverage. This disrupted Hatton's main strategy and limited his offense. But I don't recall Floyd being very offensive minded in the clinch at all. On the break, Floyd had a few slick combos (like the one you mention in the 4th round), but it seems Floyd scored mostly with power punches from the outside. I'd be willing to watch again to see if I missed anything but I didn't have that impression the times I've watched the fight.
Plenty of Floyd's fights look competitive for the first four rounds - then he kicks on and its a festival of dominance.
Like I said Floyd had his own tricks on the inside. Hatton who is rough and dirty on the inside was complaining after the fight about how Floyd was manhandling him on the inside. It was laughable.
The forearm/elbow and double gloves to the face from Floyd is undeniable. You lose credibility by denying it. Floyd fans are well within reason to suggest that Cortez only had a fairly minimal effect overall. But denying the problem altogether doesn't work if the goal is to persuade a reasonable observer. Also, do you hate Hatton or something?
