Hi i just ordered a polyform buoy (same as the aqua training bag but for half the cost) It's 190lbs once filled with water. My question is: do i need to buy a chain for it, or can i simply hang it up without it with an anchor, a carabiner, swivel and another carabiner? Someone told me that without a chain, the bag will not move much and it will hurt my hands/joints a lot more. But the bag is 190lbs and aqua bags tend to not move that much as is. So is a chain necessary/recommended, or will it not make a difference? I'm building my own heavy bag stand in the backyard. So if i had to buy 6x6 wooden beams that are anther 3ft higher to accommodate for the chain, the price will go up. Not to mention i'd have to buy the chain too, so it'd be around $80 more. You might want to use a swivel in place of one of the links if you can, that way the bag will turn and you won't be hitting the same place. Those small spring are good, lots of times you can find them when someone is throwing out a yard swing. I like the aqua bags, but we've had two and both came apart at the upper seam during the night, not while someone was using it. Edit: Just reread your post, you already mentioned using a swivel.
No you dont need a chain. BUT you must have a swivel without a chain, I'd also recommend a spring. Without a chain, try and find a spring with some safety tether but that is personal choice. The chain only has to be small. 6mm / 0.25 inch can hold 1.2 tonnes. That shackle is 12mm 0.5inch can hold something like 6 tonnes. Totally over engineered.
