This content is protected This sparring took place couple days ago. I'm weighing about 85kg at 16 years old(I'm the one with the head guard). My opponent weighs around 90kg, has been boxing for almost a year. I was taught boxing fundamentals at home but never sparred. I've been boxing at my gym since December. Please let me know your thoughts and where I can improve.
For a s first spar you did pretty well. I think you could do with rushing a little less when you get in close, it got pretty wild at times. Which was fine in this instance but if you spar someone who nails your timing then that's going to hurt.
If that is your first spar, you're way ahead of the game. Most first timers are never as relaxed as you are. Looking good AND training at Apollo Creed's gym from Rocky III. Nice one.
The lateral movement is very good, especially for a beginner. Your backfoot though should never really come off the ground. When it comes off the ground you then lose the power in your shot and causes balance issues. Work on your jab a bit more. Also at 9 seconds when you're weaving, you're facing the ground. Be careful as if timed properly you're open for an uppercut. Overall though I was very impressed. The best part is your footwork when weaving. You're not square on, where a lot of boxers doing what you're doing would be square on.
You did very well, that was very rough for your first ever time sparring. I feel you'd generally look a bit better if you had a chance to spar very lightly and just focus on the fundamentals in front of a live opponent a few times before you ramp it up again. But that's on your coach not you.
Hi, if this is really your first sparring session, then you are very cool. I had to put the monitor on its side to watch the rest of the fight.))
