I never said he didn't win fair and square. I don't buy that he had it all planned out to unfold the way that it did. Which is something I've read on here for several years. He got lucky. Deal with it.
The fitter man won. That's not luck. Winning has nothing to do with "having it all planned out". ALL champions go into the fights trying to win. Maxim tried to win, and he won. Robinson tried to win, and he lost.
Mills , was without doubt the worst LH in history ( or close ) his style !!! was , well he never had a style , what he did have was truly awful, so primitive, so uncoordinated, as to not be believed , if you haven't check him out . keep well.
My point in posing the question exactly. SRR would definitely make Mills look second best. I agree that Mills was a leading candidate for the spot of worst LH CHAMPION up to 1980, though I'm not sure he couldn't have defeated George Gardner, Jack Root, Jack O'Brien, or Battling Siki. I don't know too much about light heavyweights after 1980, though I suspect that most of them wouldn't have had any trouble defeating him. Mills was tough and could punch if he had a stationary target like Lesnevich. Lesnevich wasn't much himself for that matter. He was a well protected fighter by his managers, WW2, and the NY Athletic Commission.
Agree on all counts, have you seen the Freddie Steele / Lesnevich fight ? Steele demolishes Gus in 2 rounds ( i think ) on the subject of Freddie their might be a case for him in being included in the top 10 MM ! truly a battle harden pro, who could box, punch, and a very good chin, and was brave and rugged, just saying..... keep well Kid.
