I feel tremendously sad for Mikey. Getting shut out was embarrassing. He was supposed to be outboxing Spence before he got grounded down. But he was savagely outboxed.
He was knocking on the door of elite but not quite there. he will be knocking at the door of being elite again. He went up in weight too fast and he looked like he didn't carry the weight properly at all. but in the end he's just too small. I think he knows that he can never be a true WW.
Dude, I'm not trying to turn this into a Pac praise thread on my end. I honestly was hoping that he'd show that next level stuff like Pac/JMM/Floyd/Lomachenko. I was rooting for him and am genuinely sad that he lost.
He's a good fighter, just not that level. P4P Spence is probably better than him, more arsenal to his game. Mikey is slow on his feet, only has 1-2, doesn't throw many punches, not that fast, power is overrated above LW (couldn't even hurt Broner). He's well schooled and has good timing, but can't overcome this. Spence at least has that constant pressure, combinations, body punches.
Maybe, ten boxers in history have risen to Pacquiao's level. It's still no mean accomplishment to rise to Miguel Cotto's.
Never was, never will be. He was always C grade, he got thoroughly outboxed. Mikey lost rounds to Broner, Lipinets etc., quit against Salido. For any of us being honest we all knew that Mikey was alll round average, and a poor athlete. The signs were there.
Yes he is élite! Today i saw 2 gentlemans on the ring! Spence is way to bigger and his rich was a big difference! Jr show a big ring iq tonight! In my opinion he is the best welter and Jr middle!
I never rated him that highly to start with. He's a good fighter, nice footwork, good fundamentals but I never really saw him as a P4P contender, there's nothing about him that made him special.
He is a solid fighter but limited. He cannot fight on the inside and this was evident before the fight. Great chin though.
No he's not, very good but not elite. Last night when things weren't working out for him early he either couldn't go to plan B or didn't want to.
He could be a shot fighter now after putting on that mass and then stripping it. He built up a lot of slow twitch and burning off muscle can hinder performance, he could stay heavy and flatfoot the rest of his career. He needs to focus on regaining his atlleticism, mexivans always take the s&c side of boxing light, mikey needs to hire some legit s&c coach and get his power(speed+strength on entire body) back.
Of course he's elite. He jumped up in weight and put a lot of weight on in a short time without a couple feel out fights to get used to the weight and feel of it and lost to an elite at his own natural weight. Why are people shitting on him so bad? He dared to be great, didn't cut and run and come to survive, and tried to win every second he was in there. Give the man the respect he deserves.
