There's been plenty of highly suspicious fights over the years that seem to have been overlooked. Whether it be corruption, huge highway robbery, hometown cooking, questionable referee, testing positive for drug use, riots, smelling salts, weight issues, tampering, mob control, dirty tactics, etc. what are some highly unusual and controversial fights that nobody seems to remember? Miguel Lora vs Alberto Davila II comes to mind. Lora beat Davila again by decision but was caught dirty for usage of "sugar" water but for reasons unknown they swept that under the rug. Very suspicious.
Resto vs Collins. Disgusting bout that needs to be mentioned more. Chang vs Zapata 1 John Riel Casimero vs Amnat Ruenrong 1
Really? It was a cose but clear for Chang IMO, and more baffling that the Korean didn't get it in his country. Just came to my mind first. And it has slightly weird scorecards.
Also, some people seem to gloss over the controversial fouls etc in the Gomez vs Zarate bout. Despicable behaviour from Bazooka in that one.
Anyone remember Abner Mares vs Josef Agbeko 1, the biggest low blow fest in recent history since Golata vs Bowe? Mares constantly hit Agbeko low for 12 rounds and even had one low blow called as a KD. Disgusting performance from both Mares and referee Russell Mora.
chang won clearly (Chitalada II as well) the only one I know who thinks Zapata won is Mendoza??? Who admits he never watched it lol. I think you would have to “not really watch” to have Zapata winning. Sorry George
I remember that. Horrendous, disgusting bout. How he wasn't DQd early I don't know. Wonder who paid off the ref?
I agree, I just didn't want to be argumentative or sound like a 'Chang fanboy' from you know who lol. Haven't watched this in ages!
I've just looked and I can't find my card. But I definitely remember having Zapata a point ahead. Eh I'll have to watch again.
That's the one that got me the Mares fight, had I been Agbeko's manager or trainer I'd have started a riot going after the ref.
I was joking on the critique although I do agree with rough. Not sure I would call it a robbery but I didn’t like the decision in that fight.
Gatti vs Gamache should also be mentioned. Gatti cheated the scales to gain an unfair weight advantage over Gamache, putting up at least 19 lbs and weighing 160lbs. Gamache got wrecked and suffered a brain injury. Shame how Gatti's popularity completely overshadows the controversy over this fight.
Just reading on the first Gans Britt fight. It has everything, controversy over the weight limit, accusations of a fix, race issues, Britt fouling out, then attacking the ref. From the evidence I've seen it was most likely on the level, and Gans was just weak from making 133 ringside (which I actually think was much more justifiable as a condition than the simple injustice people generally describe it as now)
RJJ’s loss in the Olympics: You find me a sequence of 10 consecutive seconds that Roy didn’t win, much less a round or the whole fight. James Toney’s ‘win’ over Dave Tiberi. That one was about as bad as I’ve seen as the weight-drained, listless Toney did basically nothing.
