Landed a great inside uppercut today, the connection was flush. First time I've managed to do that and it was with someone whose had matches compared to my 0. Can really start to trust in my guard too, the uppercuts that would usually catch me when bobbing are now getting blocked since my hands are in the right position. Looking forward to seeing what I do in the ring.
Had my first fight against someone with 5 fights, the St. Louis Golden Gloves Novice Champion. The fight goes so fast with 2 minute rounds that I can't even remember what I did. Only looking back at the video in slow motion shows me that I really did some good things in the ring but I had some weaknesses I definitely need to work on. I earned a lot of people's respect, including my opponent. His trainer is Arthur Johnson, former Olympic boxer and world title holder so his technique was definitely spot on. Didn't win the match though but hearing a lot of people say that they liked how I fought and that it was a good fight meant I definitely want to train harder and get better. I was happy despite the loss and look on it as a great way to become a better fighter now. My coach said I probably won't face another opponent as hard as him again in the amateurs/for a very long time. Doesn't mean I'll train with any less intensity, just know what I have to fix and develop new techniques/strategies as I develop my fighting style. I'll post the video sometime in the future.. but for now, I'm 0-1 and I'm definitely not gonna let it stay that way.
Focused on training speed a lot, hands and footwork. Been tired from greenkeeping early in the morning, training in the afternoon. All the exercise will definitely pay off in the future as it forces me to work at a rate that I'm not used to.
Got dropped from a liver shot from a professional MMA fighter whose getting ready for his first professional boxing match. They are always good to work with, their experience helps me gain valuable lessons as well as confidence in my abilities.
My coach told me, 'Your either gonna get fast or I'm gonna make you fast. ' And he sure did. Knocked my last sparring partner down with an uppercut to the body, I couldn't tell he was going down at first so I gave him a 1-2 to the head before I realized he was hitting the mat. He was done for the day after that.
Thanks man, appreciate the support. :good From how things are looking, hopefully September. Been out of training the past couple of weeks due to RL moves/Family/sickness. My diet has been pretty bad and just been de-loading my muscles in order to get a proper rest in. Starts to feel weird when I haven't done much in a while but I should be starting back up next week.
Getting back to training in a day or two now that life is settling down. First week or two back sucks but usually see great improvement after a much needed rest.
Working on transitions in a fight and reaction time. Ordered my own personal headgear finally and some Ringside boxing boots(fan of the really high tops)
People want to be a fighter until it's harder to eat a sandwich than it is to run 3 miles without stopping cause your jaw is swole.. Got tore up at close range fighting with a professional fighter with 16 pro bouts.
Fighting style is continuing to improve, need to work more on stance discipline. Today's the first official meeting for our team so we get to see what new prospects are gonna show up.
No matter how long I've trained or how hard.. There are still days when I'm so tired after practice that all I want to do is sit when I get home. And probably sleep, if I can make it to my bed from the computer.
Been off of training for the past couple months, had some hard losses of people in my life. Now it's time to make them proud and get back to it.
