Berbick on points. He's much stronger and I doubt Mike will be able to move and box and keep him off consistently.
Berbick could be awkward and make the other guy struggle, this imo is what would happen here. He'd stop Dokes from being effective and get a points win.Don't see either man really being in trouble from the other, I don't think either had a killer punch.
Berbick was just a big strong bloke who was a nutter. Dokes should win due to his speed as long as he doesn't run out of puff .
Dokes takes the early rounds and Berbick takes over to get a points win. Both very inconsistent fighters could go disastrous for either but prime vs prime Berbick
Surprisingly hard fight to pick. Berbick's aggressive, mauling, physical style was kryptonite to boxer types like Greg Page, John Tate and Pinklon Thomas. Dokes was quicker and threw some eye catching combinations. Young Dokes by decision. Berbick was a late bloomer so I would take him by decision anytime after 1985. RIP to both big men.
Three rounds with headgear versus 10-12 without. I like Trevor's chances in the pro ranks. He really wore down boxer types and sometimes ran them out the ring (John Tate). Seriously though ], the list of big name heavys he beat was impressive: John Tate Muhummad Ali (shouldn't count) Greg Page David Bey Mitch Green Pinklon Thomas Jeff Sims How does Dokes' list of scalps compare to these guys? Except for Ali, most were close to prime when they were beaten by Berbick. Berbick is a little underrated.
He was the first to take prime Holmes the 15 round distance since Norton. Perhaps his most impressive accomplishment. His beating Page and Thomas was a big deal at the time, as those two fighters were becoming quite highly regarded (and some even suspected they were ducked by Holmes). After Berbick beat them most boxing fans kind of lost enthusiasm (and few continued thinking Holmes was ducking them).
Trevor could definitely outfight you if you didn't have the right equipment. But Dokes was extremely tough, and he had more than enough to deal with Trevor as a pro. But it would be a fight! As far as his list of scalps, probably better than Thomas, Green, Bey, and Sims, though not as good as Tate and Page and of course, Ali.
You have your timelines completely and utterly wrong. Nobody on the planet thought Holmes was ducking Page at the time of the Berbick fight. Page beat Snipes on the undercard of Holmes - Witherspoon in an eliminator to face Holmes next. Page won. Holmes reneged on fighting Page for whatever reason and was stripped. This is factual. Holmes was also never going to fight Thomas. In the middle of Thomas' good streak with people calling for a bout Holmes said he would never face that drug addict or something to that affect. After the Witherspoon scare Holmes unfortunately shut up shop (and said he was going to) and handpicked for the rest of his reign. W.B.C.
