The key for Joyce here is going to be timing Dubois' jab a landing his right hand over the top of it. That would take Dubois' most effective weapon out of the fight. Joe has a considerable size advantage and I don't believe Daniel can push him back without his jab.
Its a big ask tbh. The speed disparities huge and joyce pretty much has the wrong tools for the job. You dont take guys like dubois on head on...got to soften them up....tire them out first etc. Joyce only really goes one way. The problem is dubois will end up making him hesitant to come forward. From there he doesnt really have much to offer. Pretty much stuck fighting dubois fight. Its a great bit of match making from warren. A decent fighter and name in joyce...but one thats big strengths will be nullified by dubois. Could be wrong but its hard to find a way for joyce. Going forward like he does against dubois...will end up only a matter of time before he gets caught with something big.
I hope it's an absolute classic and Joyce wins actually! Dubois can then come again he has plenty of time to develop. But for Joyce, this could then see another Brit at the top of the HW Division. Unfortunately, I cannot see past a Dubois victory unless Joyce can somehow fight in fast forward speed.
Can't believe people are writing Joyce off. Joe Joyce has beaten Filip Hrgovic, Magomedrasul Medzhidov, Ivan Dychko, Tony Yoka, Bakhodir Jalolov, Viktor Vykhryst, Frazer Clarke (x 4), Gasan Gimbatov, Bryant Jennings, Bermaine Stiverne
It looked good until you got to the last name... The danger signs for me are the last two you mention, and given their recency they're worth paying attention to. I don't think he beat Jennings *that* clearly. From memory I think I had it 7-5. Jennings is a decent boxer, but one past his best. And he had Joyce hurt to the body. Stylistically nothing alike Dubois though, so perhaps not worth paying attention to. Stiverne was an alright fighter at one point. That point has passed. The ease at which he was landing on Joyce is of huge concern IMO
Forget them fighting the real challenge is how to promote these two socially awkward robots? If Warren pulls that off he might actually deserve his HOF status!
I was over at Stallards gym this afternoon, Joyce been getting some quality sparring in with Fabio Wardley and new Sam Jones signing Solomon Dacres.
Joyce will have to avoid early rush from Dubois who will definitely try to knock out Joyce in the early rounds...
I think Dubois will be quite patient and get his jab going and wait for the opportunity. To be fair the opportunity will be there all night near enough.
Surely Joyce has gotta try and go back to his initial style when he turned over. He used a lot more footwork, tried to make them miss & counter with his own. He had more speed and was renowned for his engine. I’m really not sure what happened in them 3 years but he has slowed considerably, his footwork has become very pedestrian, his hand speed is like slow motion and his defence is shoddy. He’s picked up so many bad habits.
