Larry built his home, with a boxing-glove shaped swimming pool in the backyard, and paid it off as it was built. He still lives in it.

He built an office building in Easton, Pa., his hometown, downtown. He rented the bottom floor to the U.S. Post Office on like a 50-year lease. Then a bunch of other federal offices decided to locate there so IIRC he rented pretty much the whole building to the U.S. government on long-term leases and kept one office for himself.

I remember reading where Larry said there were some businesses who would have paid a little more in rent but wanted short-term leases and the post office was talking decades — guaranteed, the check comes on time every month, you never have to try to collect, you never have space sitting empty trying to find a new tenant. Just sit back the rest of your life and count the money when it comes in.

Apart from George Foreman getting lucky (and smart) with the grill, Larry is probably the wisest businessman ever to hold the heavyweight title.

    Are we adjusting for inflation?

If so then there is an incredibly deep field of competition!

Hearns lost everything ... very sad , just could not say no to his family and friends when they asked .. He made so much money and lost it all and did not pay his taxes .. He took responsibility and got his life back on track

Funny you say that as he spent a lot of time here in my home town . Hermosa Beach, CA .. and he played for the Los Angeles Aztecs .. anyway.. He opened a bar in Hermosa in the 70's .. Bestie's ... which is still there today ...but the name changed, and the old school memoribilia of him is still there on the walls

What do the matches look like? Still in the box? How many matches are we talking about here? Does one of the matchstick heads look like Jesus so I can sell it on eBay?

That's cool. I didn't know Larry Homes had a pool of that shape. Wilfredo Gomez also had a pool shaped like like a boxing glove built in his mansion.
