Some of the absolute **** being spouted in this thread are laughable. Matchroom and sky will be fine, matchroom have the biggest output of live televised sport in Europe. Sky don't just have a boxing contract with MR.

Adam hasn't been shafted at all. The market has changed, so Hearns job is to make his fighters the most money, the money is in America.

No different to Frank Warren selling Billy Joe, Tyson fury and co to Top Rank in USA. Where's the outcry about this?

Also sky won't cancel the contract lol, who they gonna bring in? Frank Warren again? So he can put Dubois Vs Richard Lartey as a headliner LOL. Get a bit of perspective people

That hate and jealousy is real. Remind me of those PPV numbers.

Hearn had a responsibility to Sky and to his fighters. The rights fees are what counts.

Why would a fighter given the choice not fight on DAZN if they are paid a lot more?

I must not forget viewing numbers as well are important. If shows are hitting the numbers sky won't be that concerned.

    This.

The whole scenario is born out of purses and purses in America being higher. The idea that a fighter shouldn't want to go to America to earn more is simply ridiculous.

It’s not just Sky Hearn is taking a dump on, it’s the thousands of Sky subscribers and fans who pay for his shows getting robbed of being able to see quality shows at the expenses of Americans who can now see everything for a bargain price in comparison.

I think sky should have just signed the big fighters directly and cut out the greasy middle man. Instead they built up and relied solely on said greasy wannabe essex wideboy middleman and now they're the weaker party and at his mercy.

They should have got an experienced boxing promoter to run their boxing side instead of smith. Smith seems like he didn't have the required street smarts, and ended up building matchroom boxing for free.

That argument kinda works if you only accept that Sky haven't benifited at all. It's a two way street.

From about 16.25 in that video the poor guy looks like he's holding back tears.

Sky and BT getting the shaft in favour of American networks

Looks like there is now a gap appearing in the market for a UK focused promoter to cut deals with Sky and BT

What was most alarming for me is that Smith has basically now admitted that the focus is on the US.

"Sky doesn't just have boxing, it has everything"

Someone needs to ask him what Sky's PPV schedule is looking like for 2019. 1-2 shows max I would imagine, hugely down on previous years.

No more PPV was DAZN tagline and one month of DAZN will be half the price of the cheapest PPV. It's a complete no brainier. Sky demand from Eddie 4-6 PPV's per year (?). When DAZN launch in the UK this will significantly effect subscriber numbers which in turn will lower revenue and effect rights purchasing power. Expect to see DAZN going for premier league in the next bidding round. Whilst I fully expect DAZN to be side loaded onto you'r premium BT and SKY packages there will also be a significant number 'going solo' with just the DAZN and Netflix packages and this is where I expect them to carve out their slice of the market.

I don't get what is Dazn long term game plan, they are going to need an insane amout of subscribers to get anywhere near profitable, Spotify has posted one profit in all it's years and that has millions of subscribers.

That's normal for a business like theirs. Twitter only became profitable in 2018, Amazon didn't post a profit for years despite huge revenue. Profit isn't the immediate objective for businesses like these, it's gathering a large user base and collecting their data.

People like you are very thick no offence. The Preimer
League Rights was just completed a year ago for 2019-2022. If DAZN want to do anything in the UK they have to have the Preimer League.

As Smith explained now Sky are owned by a American powerhouse in Comcast, DAZN won’t be getting anywhere near the crucial PL Packages. Sky’s whole Buisness is based on having the Preimer League.

Joshua also has a direct contract with Sky. That contract was signed before the Povetkin fight and was a 5 fight deal. So we’ve had Povetkin and Miller. There’s still three more.

DAZN won’t be coming into the UK until at least 2021. Sky have got plenty of time to come up with a strategy to contain DAZN. Also Matchroom also supply Sky with Darts and other sports. That relationship will be strained if Matchroom ditch Sky.

And according to Matchroom’s last companies house report, their boxing buisness only recently became profitable. The vast majority of Matchroom’s profit is derived from other sports in which Sky are the crucial partners....
