We will but what I've noticed is we've reached a plateau. Most of these guys think the next champion will be 6'11, 290 pounds but i dont see it and the one after that will be 7 foot, 320 pounds but i dont believe that. Fury can move amazingly well for his size but he's not as big as most people think. Hes a giant sure but heavyweights almost his size have competed in the 90s and they weren't clumsy. His real height is 6'7½ and he's actually sloppy when he weighs over 265 pounds as seen in the Wilder rematch but since Wilder is a one trick pony who cant box, it didn't matter. Its not like Fury has dominated everyone he faced as he struggled with 6'5, 235lb Wallin and 6'3, 210lb Cunningham. Heavyweights aren't much that bigger on average than they were in the 90s like most people want you to believe and skilled smaller heavyweights like Povetkin or Usyk or Holyfield will still be able to compete with SHWs in the future Jorge Luis Gonzalez was a 90s prospect at 6'7, 250lb and he fought similar to Vitali and he dominated a old renaldo snipes and beat Bowe and Lewis in the ametures and other ameture fighters but after he got destroyed by Bowe in the pros he was never the same again. Gonzalez actually fought a 6'10 fighter by the name of Mike White as well. Some of these 6'5+ fighters weren't world level like Bowe or Lewis or even Mccline or Grant but most were certainly more skilled than Breazeale and Wach
Don't have exp with 7 ft dudes to spar boxing. Looks that tallest boxer was 6 ft 9 in, approx 300-302 lbs with low fat then and 4-0 pro record in U.S prom. Damn, his reach had gave me a lot of problems and he wasn't stupid at all.
Based on the top prospects right now (Yoka, Hrgovic, Zhang, Joyce, Jalolov) I'm pretty certain the next champion will be 6'6 or 6'7, but maybe big 6'9 Dychko is better than he's been in the past and grabs the belts. I don't think we'll have another Valuev for awhile.
I agree, but that was not at all what the original claim was, nor what I was talking about. Wilder is by no rational definition a SHW. Whether you use absolute weight-where he comes close at his heaviest-or incorporate a sensible standard of lean mass per inch-where he never comes close, he is no SHW. In the link you showed about how much taller humans have gotten, it is mistaken that *any* of it is genetic. Humans did not suddenly have differential access to mating or survive more often if they were taller-the better health care & especially nutrition just has so many more approaching or realizing their genetic potential. I'll bet sometimes the measurements are off a bit in some nations, depending on how it is done, but it is basically correct.
What percentage of huys that you & others spar...Do you think are stronger & bulkier than they would be naturally due to PEDs such as steroids & HGH?
Might be some sexual selection involved. "Tall, Dark and Handsome" has been pushed by Hollywood for the last 100 years. Still waiting for "Short, Pale and Homely" to make a surprising come back
Wilder came in at 231 agaisnt Fury in the rematch and I'd definitely classify that as SHW but he got absolutely destroyed in that fight so in his best performances he's definitely not a SHW
I think there is tendency to attempt recruit large size guys and more interest about boxing due to social media and talks: HW boxing does pay pretty well. Sometimes basketball players who are suggested not to be enough good for NBA and like this. Guys from other sports. Also large lads usually earlier had less interest about boxing: if they are large and athletic, they usually doesn't have exp to be bullied in their school years. Now is different: social media, everyone does knows that HW boxing, NBA and like these pays pretty well. More interest. Next large dude was 6 ft 7 in lad, he usually does have weight after pre fight camp 270-273 lbs. Then he was like 3-0 in pro, now looks that they managed him till pro record 5-0-0. Difficult to tell much about his potential, he then was already tired before me and cos this.
The SHW era is not going away. It's not a fad. It's due to the effectiveness of these really large HWs. A really good SHW like Lewis, Vitaly, Vlad in his time, Fury, ... are simply a real challenge for the smaller HWs to deal with. That's not to say there will never be another Mike Tyson-like guy but the trend is clearly on the side of the SHWs.
Tyson was OK against men around 6'3'' Even in his prime I dont think he would be any successfull against guys around 6'6'' Also I dont think Tyson would be as successfull with his style If he was 6'2'' 230 lbs himself. Body mechanics would simply be too slow at that size for a peek a boo style to work.
