I agree. The term "robbery" is way overused in boxing these days. Lots of close rounds in this one.

This was one of the best, most competitive fights of the year. They should do it again.

Very good fight. I was too hungover and too entertained to score it properly, but my feeling was that SD just edged it. Might change that opinion on a second viewing, though, since there were many close rounds. The commentators (Swedish) had it quite clear for SD, but for me it seemed very close. The 3 points that two of the judges had for GGG seems quite a bit in my eyes, but on the other hand they had a much better vantage point than me really to see what landed and what didn't. GGG by one point, as the third judge had it, seems perfectly reasonable, though. But, who knows, maybe I'll have it as the other two if I score it properly.

It was a bit strange when GGG was hurt to the body and the ref stopped the action for a couple of seconds. I don't think it would have made any real difference, but still strange. Was an explanation ever given?

Another reflection is that it is really too bad GGG never got to meet opponents of the quality of Jacobs, Canelo and SD sooner. For me all four of these fights have been very close and he hasn't really separated himself from them, but the question will always be how he would have fared had he faced them, or opponents of similar quality, when he was younger.

 

Ref did the same at the end of the 10th for Derevyanchenko.
Overall a bit of a **** job done by the ref.

Yep, but that seemed to me that he thought he heard the bell. The second time, I don't really know what it was.

I also felt that he perhaps should have docked a point for SD seeing all the times he warned him. It wasn't for serious offenses but there must have been half a dozen times at least in all...

 

I was ringside watching the fight and thought Derevyanchenko just edged it by an eyelash. Lot of people around me thought the same. Golovkin looked old in the fight, first time i really thought he's getting old now. He was hurt a couple of times by body shots. Canelo wasn't really able to bother him with both head and body shots but SD was able to do it. I think he has 1-2 fights left at this level, then it's time to hang it up. Maybe Andrade next if Canelo won't fight him after Kovalev. That would be a great fight. Easier matchup for GGG imo as Andrade is no pressure and inside fighter like SD.

Definitely can see Golovkin getting R8 and R12 though. So a draw would be fair, even Golovkin by 1 pt (bec of the KD) is a good scorecard. But i saw some really one-sided scorecards full of biasm in here which had Golovkin up by how many rounds? 6? 7? 8? REALLY sad to see it as i think this was one of the best performances of the year considering the circumstances (early KD + cut). The punch stats were nearly 50/50. I agree. It was a great fight, close. Both guys deserved a W here.

 

His voice is terrible to listen to through a mic. So awkward sounding. I wonder if it sounds less goofy to non-Brits.

To answer the question why the ref stopped it. Ggg was moving backwards and stumbled into the referee who was in a bad/wrong position and thus trapped golovkin in the middle of the ring. That's why he stopped the action beacuse he got in the way. Now, was it against the rules to stop the action? I think not, but i'm not sure.

 

Referee wasn't very good.

 

Great fight! I had it level going into round 11 with GGG winning the final 2 rounds and deserved the victory.
