If Greb film still exists, what cash reward would flush it out of hiding?

If the amount was significant all you’d get is people uploading really low-quality film of old fights shot from far away claiming it was Greb trying to scam their way into some cash.

I suspect there's loads of film of fighters on Home Reels, in Britain for example when Social Elite's held Events or Garden Parties or whatever you call them. These gatherings were often Multi Themed Days or Weekends and Sport was often featured. My Grandad & Scots Welterweight Jake Kilrain and others gave exhibitions at one of these Parties.

So throughout Britain alone, never mind the rest of the world, many a wealthy estate probably hosted a few Boxers from time to time.

 

It may be someone else of whom there is little film. If it's Tunney for sure, it could be one of his unsaved films.

Damn, how about a little optimism here.

 

I'm afraid people overstate how valuable old sports footage are unfortunately. I used to think that people would pay hundreds of dolars for any footage from Wilt Chamberlain high scoring performances, but most people don't care. I'm afraid the same would happen with Greb footage.

 

I would pay a lot of money for it, even if nobody else would.

 

You would not be the only one bidding and the film would go for far more than the OP indicated. I'd pay $300 easy for it.

 

Some boxing fans would care. Wilt's 100 point game is worth a lot to a basketball fan, and there is plenty of film on him but none on Gerb. At this point are there any collectors here to ring in on the topic? The price of a famous event not on film is worth a lot of money, I'm telling you. I'd pay $1,000.00 or more to have the sole rights rights to Tunney vs. Gerb and imagine fairly certain I would be outbid. there are richer collects out there.

 

I do that with basketball films and they cost a lot. On average, digitising 20 minutes long material cost around $300. So to be honest - $300 is nothing for such a rarity as Greb's fight.

Of course assuming that anybody would be willing to pay that. I share the content I transfer, but I know that many boxing collectors keep their finds for themselves.
