This match up just entered my mind. Early on,it would be a very exciting, fast paced bout, with both men getting their share of the points. It would be decided by Ali's mobility frustrating Bowe and making him miss a lot and blocking a lot more. Bowe would have his best moments with inside work, but Ali eventually grinds him down, and scores a clear decision,or even a tko if it's a 15 rounder.

    Ali easy UD over 12

Over 15 rounds possible Ali TKO - but at 15 rounds the fight would be longer than Bowes peak.

Easy to hit Bowes face would be a swollen mess at the end

It's one of the interesting things about clashes of styles,is n't it ? A prime Bowe would always get the better of a prime Holyfield,on their best nights, but Holyfield would almost certainly have given Ali a tougher fight than Bowe would have done.

But Bowe wouldnt always get the better of a prime Holyfield - A prime Holy beat him in the 2nd fight when he boxed with his head not his heart - the 3rd fight neither was prime, and holy was ill.

well unlike holyfield ali wouldn't have gotten man handled like that and he would not brawl and fight bowe on the inside. he would outjab him from the outside and use his speed and combos to outbox bowe.

When considering 1974 Ali, it's helpful to remember how a particular environment largely dictated how he fought in Kinshasa. The middle fight with Frazier was in a more "generic" setting (if the ring in boxing's Mecca can be described in those terms), and he came closer to replicating his 1960s peak in that match than in any other during his second career.

1992 Bowe is not matching his speed here, and Ali would have no need of a knockout to win. A clear UD for Muhammad is the outcome.

:good Yes,if Ali had fought Foreman in Madison Square,he'd have moved a lot more. Would still have whupped George's ass, though. Maybe have taken one or two rounds longer.

jesus the ali **** suckers are more and more .. this version of bowe could well beat THIS version of ali, bowe was bigger, stronger, harder puncher, he did not have problems of stamina in 1992, he was not slow, he had the skill enough to beat holyfield in his peak, you can say what you want... this bowe was very aggressive and he wa sbetter than norton, he could beat this version of ali.

Bowe may well have been better than Norton in SOME ways, but I doubt whether he could have caused Ali as many problems as Ken did. It also needs to be remembered that an over the hill Tony Tubbs gave Bowe fits during their bout which Riddick barely won.

Bowe had trouble when anyone jabbed with him, his overhand punching motion is not going to do him any favors in hitting Ali, and in 74 Ali had both his massive physical gifts and all the wiles he'd need.

And contrary to what people obsessed with size and use that as an excuse for why a Klit or Lewis or whomever would win every single fight ever, the 2 inches in height and 20 pounds that was halfway between muscle and flub that Bowe from this era would have had on Ali are not impossible obstacles to overcome.

Better fight than some are giving it credit.. but I still see Ali taking a close decision.. but he needs to be on his game to do so

ali 74 was static, he did repeat the tactic against the ropes against anyone, this style was all wrong to face a man like bowe, 70's ali is overrated h2h because he did beat foreman, simply he had the number of the style of george, that´s all. and bowe was better than norton probably in every department

Yep, that Ali of 74 did nothing but lay against ropes. Never moved an inch, as this fight from January of 74 proves.

Never seen such a slow, flat footed sloth.

So Ali's win over Foreman can be ignored because he just had Foreman's number, but Norton's win over Ali isn't ignored because Norton had Ali's number... hmmm.

And I thought 70s Ali being highly rated probably had something to do with beating Bonavena, Quarry, Frazier, Foreman, Yle, Norton, etc, not just Foreman. Must have been my mistake.

And I can name at least one department where Norton was a HELL of a lot better than Bowe: dealing with jabs. Whenever Bowe fought anybody who could jab with him, Bowe fell apart. Even when the guy was shorter and with a shorter reach, see how Holyfield's jab nullified Bowe's in the 2nd fight.

Good post :good The Ali of '74,when in shape, would have been a massive mountain for any H2H scenario.
