Yup but that was 4 years ago and mosley has lost a few steps. I don't think his workrate is high enough to give williams a competitve at this point. He'd get inside and land from time to time but at the end, he'd be way down on the scorecards and lose a wide decision. I agree, 8-4 for Williams sounds about right and anything more would be asking too much of mosley.
What is with the hate for Paul Williams, it seems as if people hate him as much as they hate Floyd, for what? He is freakishly tall and doesn't always fight his height, so what. He has a nice chin, high work rate, and he doesn't duck anyone and wants to fight the best.
Hes a 6'2 southpaw fighting at 147lbs and he thinks his **** don't stink. Thats why I hate him. It wasn't till recently that he was still fighting 6 round fights. I believe he beat Margarito but he did get slapped around that ring a bit too and now he wants everyone. I suppose he eventually deserves a chance of course but not right now. He should fight Clottey or Cintron as far as I'm concerned he should still be calling out the B level fighters at 147. And calling out Mosley a man that has had trouble with tall fighters his entire career and is on his way out of his career is a ***** move.
That's a good fight. It could make Mosley get in the elite group again, or it could establish the young Williams. Williams UD12.
I think this is the window of opportunity for both men just like Asterion wisely put it, but then I tend to agree with Rusmfeld and others that Mosley doesn't have any sort of advantages going into this one - Paul Williams most definitely personifies everything that could go wrong against Shane, he has the sort of physical advantages ( reach and punch output) Forrest had and he is the slick southpaw that proved to be the unsurmountable obstacle in Winky Wright back in 2004. But here is the hint - there will be more than circumstancial evidence for Mosley's class if he takes the risk and fights against the odds again - a victory would speak volumes for itself and would give himself room to look for that Mayweather fight and that should be enough motivation to do it... Otherwise, he will not be remembered for the good reasons against Cotto and he will not make himself marketable for a Mayweather fight, no matter what Floyd is sayin now. This fight oughta happen.
I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the prospects of a Mosley-Mayweather bout. Keep in mind, it was Mayweather who mentioned Molsey as a possible opponent following his victory over Hatton.
He did mention Cotto and Mosley as great Welterweight Champs ( even though Shane doesn't hold a title) and that was, in my view, due to the fact that Larry asked him about Cotto in the first place n he had to change the subject... Of course, you can't take for granted what Mayweather is sayin now and that could all be cause he was moved like he always gets in the end of fights - he sent love to the UK fans, said he always wanted to fight in England, wanted to see Hatton live to fight another day and make more money for his sake, interrupted Larry and Lampley and said they are doing a hell of a job now, wished to be a promoter and the future is Mayweather Prom. and GBP - putting that in context with previous comments that Mosley was just being the bait for the De La Hoya fight and that he is just a sparring partner, that GBP treated him like **** and he would never work with them again, that Hatton is a club C fighter, I'm sorry... You just can't use Floyd's words as arguments for a Mosley-Mayweather fight.
