    It sure can.

They can use it to make a down-payment on a sponsorship deal with football team named after a Melbourne suburb that plays in a domestic competition that the rest of the world couldn't give a **** about.

Why bother funding a world champion boxer when you can fund a suburban Melbourne football team?

even though i dont post i better weigh in on this one.

i told you a few days ago that our state is **** broke, we just handed down a killer budget that is planning on closing 20 schools!!!! cutting 100 police jobs, cutting 200 gov jobs and canning many other schemes.

that being said, a few weeks ago the gov wanted to sponser the North Melbourne roos ( an afl club for you ****in idiot league ****s) to the tune of $600k a year for 3 years (2 games a year to be played in hobart) and the people revoked and said no way!! so the sneaky ****s sponsered it with a government owned bussiness the TT Line.

they also just gave a $40k pay rise to a polly who was in the job for just 3 days....yup :-(

in these times i dont agree that the gov should cough up cash for the fight, and im a massive geale fan from his home town.

many of you would not know but tassie is split in two parts...the north vs the south. i dont know why but we ****ing hate each other, we always have, if the north get something (afl being played by the hawks gov sponsered 15mil for 5 years) the south want it to... above the north mil deal.

hobart is the capital and with 200k people there, but the north is spread out with 300k people and launceston (where i live and geale comes from is kinda central to it all) but the south dont see it that way.

if hobart got the fight i wouldnt a nd all my mates and most of the north wouldnt go south to watch the fight as it would seam as if we are supporting the south.

i know it all sounds stupid but after all we are tasmanians.

The suburban Melbourne football team makes sh!tloads from it.

The money goes straight out of the pockets of Tasmanian taxpayers into the bank account of the Hawthorn football club who then pay it to their players who then spend it in Melbourne.

And the Tasmanian government wonders why it has financial problems.

All govts **** money up the wall on all manner of stupid ****, but they never do it consistently, so citing what else they might have spent money on doesn't add weight to the argument.
I'd love for Geale to be able to have home defence, but don'k you can whinge if the govt won't fund it, they all c?nts anyway. When the Tassie gov is cutting schools and police, you can't expect them to back boxing, even a world champ is not as appealing to the mainstream these days, as anoying as that is.

I don't think people are whinging about it. It's more that the Govt have said they want it and now that it comes time to back up what they've said they want, they're looking sideways.

jesus ****in hell some of u boxing fans are just ****in plebs...nothing personal...!this country is such in a zombie mentality..im on a boxing forum and we got a world champ wanting to make a defence on his home turf and boxing fans are against it.
its like the mining tax....treasury gives outa report saying we need to tax the ****s an extra 10% and the plebs come out and say dont tax our mining companies.
10 years under howard turned our country into a zombie nation.if theres a fasion show spated for tassie, the goverment will give it some money.if theres a theatre company touring the goverment will do the same....footy,soccer and car racing same same ....
now this is my piont here.....come closer so you can here me you ****in plebs......
sport fashion art to the people are all important...its about creating creativity and people become happy and more productive.this country is ****in rich and we are the envy of the ****in world....this country also makes the top 5 in the olympic games for the last 2 decades...we love sport and the blokes and shielas who are the atheletes.
and guess what those professonal sports people will all be watching daniel geale fight for a 1st defence.if there is one sport in this country that everyone gets behind its a boxer who is defending his title on home soil.i can surely say when geale defends his title 90% of all the A league soccer players, afl, nrl, rugby union and jockeys will be watching it.
because they all reckonize that a champ boxer puts his life on the line and is respected.
if you cant support a champ boxer who has gone to hostile territory to claim the title and bring it back home then you are a ****ed state and do not deserve the graces of daniel geale.....**** off tasmania, you bunch of ******s.just **** off..

considering most Tasie people are tree hugging hippies it was probably looked at as a bad way to get re elected by the government, marcus and geale may be the only 2 non hippies
