There are plenty of fans out there who have had their perception coerced during a fight by over exaggerated commentary, so which fights gets overstated as being good fights, that are actually not as good as they're made out to be, or a bit meh?

I actually didn't think Froch-Kessler was a great fight, its was a tentative fight for the most part that exploded into life in the last round or so.

I always thought it was just me that didn't think the Kessler fight was all that.

I've been meaning to rewatch it for that very reason.

Agree. It was a good watch but it wasn't FOTY or anything close to that really.

Nah, I agree with you. I thought Gus Johnson did a great job of trying to make it appear that way, but personally, Froch's fights with Taylor and Pascal, were a lot better.

I thought it was a good fight. Close to very good.

The problem was that 2010 (especially early that year) was the year of the duck, or the year of the ''let's wait until both are 32 weight world champions before fighting'', so it kinda went near the top of the pile by default.

2011 has pissed on it already and shows no sign of slowing down both domestically and internationally, so it's all good.

We still need some of the middleweights to start fighting each other, with about least ten men having claim to being a ''world champion'', but all in all I think we should be happy with our lot.

I agree I didn't find Kessler/Froch that great at all personally. I was more frustrated because I know both can box so much better than they did that night. They were both just swinging wildly and missing most of the time.

That is true. I made a thread at the start of this year saying how I thought 2011 was gonna be just as much of a letdown as last year. Wlad had signed to fight Chisora again, Haye was gonna fight Chagaev, Floyd was booking another extended vacation and DeGale/Groves wasn't gonna happen because neither was 'ready'.

Luckily I seem to have been proved wrong in a big way and long may it continue :good

Definitely agree with this, i rewatched it not so long ago and i think the amount of praise that gets thrown at it on this forum affected me. Its never going to be a fight that goes down in boxing history his fights with Taylor and Pascal will always be more memorable.

Hard to believe Froch-Kessler might of been a nominee for fight of the year in 2010, when it was a year loaded with FOTY candidates. I watched all these fights that year, and Kessler-Froch didn't come close to any imo

    Amir Khan - Marcos Maidana
    Humberto Soto - Urbano Antillon
Juan Manuel Marquez - Michael Katsidis
    Antonio Escalante - Miguel Roman
    Giovani Segura - Ivan Calderon
    Abner Mares - Yonnhy Perez
Juan Manuel Lopez - Rafael Marquez
    Carlos Tamara - Brian Viloria

I think the Burns-Martinez fight gets exagerated as far as exciting goes.

more goes into making a great fight than technical skill and guys throwing bombs.

groves vs degale was a boring and technically poor fight in many ways but it was intriguing and exciting for the full 12 rounds. same as kessler vs froch

Khan vs Maidana was one of those dramatic fights, where you're always on the edge of your seat waiting for Maidana to land and see how Khan reacts.

But as a fight it wasn't that great, certainly not superior to Froch vs Kessler IMO.

Marquez vs Katsidis was a good fight but probably too one-sided to be a genuine FOTY contender.

Agree on Kessler/Froch. A lot of missing went on in that fight. If they'd have landed some of those punches the other guys head would have been in the crowd, but it didn't happen.

Burns vs Martinez was a good fight too but for the most part was pretty one-sided.

Whenever Burns boxed off the back foot and didn't get too involved he was winning the rounds relatively easily. The RBR on here before the last round contained about 20 posts - DO NOT TRY AND KNOCK HIM OUT!!!
