Who won? Macklin or Sturm?

how did Strum win any of those "close" rounds many on here talk about while Macklin forced him to fight his fight? dictated the range they fought at. his style overwhelmed Sturms thats called ring generalship let alone the fact that he outworked him, scored more clean punches and hurt him several times
The fight was far away from being close, could have gone either way or all those "I´m too dumb to score a fight but wanna post something" bull**** posts I´ve read on here
Macklin won 117-111 the decision was a flat robbery and the judges were total disgraces even the guy who had Macklin winning by one round was quite a joke

I had it like you 117-111 for Macklin. It wasn't a close fight. Macklin was landing the body shots at will and he managed to land a lot of uppercut and hooks as well. Macklin outworked him and outlanded by a lot. I don't see how anyone can have it a draw or a Sturm win. Sturm opened more in the last 3 rounds but that's not enough to win the fight.

 

Workrate and landing punches, do not alone determine who wins the round. You must look at other factors also:

- Who lands the cleaner punches?
- Who lands the more damaging punches?
- Defence?
- Ring general ship?

Macklin was indeed far more active and he did ‘land’ his shots, but unfortunately, they had very little snap towards the end, and the majority of them were landing on arms and gloves. I felt they were slightly inferior to Sturm’s combinations which, despite being less frequent, were very effective and would always snap Macklin’s head and pushing him back. He would also control the range later on and boxed slightly better.

But like I’ve said in another thread, the rounds which Macklin won were very clear, convincing rounds. Sturm, however, won his rounds narrowly. His were extremely close and he would only edge Macklin by a hair’s whiskers, simple because of the above factors. So again, with this in consideration, you shouldn’t really be too shocked to see people scoring it for Sturm, despite what the fight looked like as a whole. It’s nowhere near the “robbery” that many here are trying to make out.
