Spot on, imo its a clear conflict of intrest. The promoter wants his boy to win and the sanctioning bodies wants to get paid so rarely do they knock back a fight, even if its a missmatch. This goes as far as state title level, there doesnt appear to be any limitations to these missmatches (other than paul Briggs lol) Ive seen instances of the promoters fighter being matched in a state title fight against a bloke whos only had 1 fight and lost it. People expect to pay to see fair and even fights, when promoters are allowed to do this and contuine to do so it degrades the sport, people eventually wake the fck up and stop attending. You reap what you sow when it comes to boxing, these guys padding their records are doing no one any favours, they are deluded and come title shot time WILL and have fallen short. There is no short cuts in boxing, do it right or get the fck out or do whats been allowed to occur in AUS pro boxing for sometime now, FAKE IT! it seems to be the fad these days.
Look some of whats being said here has merit but we need to take into consideration that Australia has a very small pool of fighters so it's not always easy to get opponents. Also if you step up too early and lose, your fighter may lose confidence, if you win it rules out another 10 fighters in your division here because your now too dangerous I think what fox sports is doing needs commending...even fights, even matches Take a look at Jamie Myers card on Friday night....some great fights there, very entertaining and most guys had under 5 fights...even matched was the key. Lets look at the CW division here....got some well established fighters, some gate keepers a few good undefeated fighters, some good up and coming prospects Now the current champ is Brad Pitt...IMO he stepped up too early...after just his 7th win he fought Daniel Armann who was 21-4 for the AUST title...as we know he stopped him cold Now I dont see any aussies fighting Brad now IMO Brad should have fought 4 or 5 more mid range fights...I bet Lincon is going to have nightmares matching him now Only chance Lincons got is to bring in fighters or fight OS
I agree actually. The fox cards have been really entertaining, is the match making all to do with guys like Jamie Myer or are Fox getting more involved? i think i read fox sports only wanted Aussie match up's or something. Either way I think Ash is right and there are heaps of Brad Pitt examples that often leading to prospects taking the next step to quickly without the grounding most overseas fighters have.
FOX have put all promoters on notice....aussie v aussie even matched fights Promoters submit the card to fox for approval...best even matched card gets the FOX date.
If we had a bigger local pool of fighters, we would see more local match ups, I keep banging on about the welterweight super series, if we get behind things like this, and have them in other weight classes, then local guys would have to fight each other. The fear of having a loss on ones record would be relieved and more willing local fighters would get regular work. Good match ups will eventually get more punters through the gates, giving promoters a better budget to play with.
Doing the theory gets pretty slippery. Ask any decent matchmaker why fighter A won't fight fighter B & he could well tell you that the fight would stink & neither would want a loss to go with it. Pointless. He may also tell you that fighter A has better chance of beating a ranked international OS fighter than the Oz champ & for more money. I'm not saying that other suggestions are wrong, just adding that things don't always come down to basic theory.
Yes plenty of Boxing. Do you ? What i said earlier is correct whether you wish to accept that or not. E.g Jamie Pittman.
