lopez every time. keeps him at a distance with that poleaxe jab and though wilde had the advantage in power, lopez had pop himself and enough fluidity to avoid the worst of it.

i'm not totally counting wilde out but i agree with you. lopez is 5'5" to wilde's 5'0". i think lopez's jab carries him to a decision.

i can't help but remember gene tunney saying he was the greatest fighter he ever saw. when george foreman says something, i take it with a grain of salt. but tunney was a real student and master of the game and that opinion speaks volumes

Wilde i think for me. I think his bobbing and weaving pressure and peculiar unorthodoxy in attack and crowding would be bad for Finito. Wilde as you can see was a great feinter/range negotiator as well, which is a deadly combination with the pound for pound knockout power he possessed(see: Jones Jr., Louis, Langford). Lopez would give a great account of himself with his economical movement, combinations, and especially an undervalued right uppercut as an infighting killer. But Wilde is a guy that won his title at 98 pounds, and was not afraid of taking on ranked Bantams and even Featherweights... Lopez never proved that kind of will to form a concrete legacy and take bigger challenges, and yes that does matter to me.

    Wilde.

    Style advantage, Power, Resume.

good post (love you mentioned lopez's all time great uppercut) though i have to admit seeing a guy like chang giving lopez more problems. WIlde did take on bigger individuals however he typically placed demands on them to come in well below their typical weight. Against lopez, at a contracted 105, i see his size and economic style working against him. Lopez was too patient and educated to be drawn in consistently and i just don't see wilde scoring a one punch knock out. he'd need to hurt lopez, whose generalship would dictate the pace and distance, both to wilde's disadvantage

Two of the biggest punching little men ever. But,Lopez competition was truly awful.

It's very hard to say how he would have done against another great-especially one that there is very little footage on.

Wilde and Chang are quite similar in their instinctive defences and aggresive styles.
