IDK, probably like 1 or 2 more fights. You have to think that having finally achieved success will diminish is drive. But when it does become noticeable expect his team to switch to fighting bum mode in the true spirit of modern boxing.
I think a bit more than that like 4. Martinez takes good care of himself and seems to enjoy living an athletic lifestyle.
I agree with 1-2, can go pretty quickly and he is 36 from memory. But, still, Sergio loves to fight, if he loses his athletism, I wouldnt be suprised to see him still win fights, he does have quick hands, big heart and a willingness to stand and trade.
He's 30% athleticism 70% skills today and it's been changing to skills in the past several years, so I think like Hopkins, he has a good chance of transforming into a hugely effective veteran who makes up for loss of speed with master timing and traps. He's style is less athletic to 5 years back yet he's even better - I say his successful career will last longer than his athleticism.
The guy really impresses me, and at 36...That's what I want to be like when I'm 36. To start boxing at such an old age, and to do what he does is insane. I agree with everybody and say he has about 4 good fights where he is the same man as he is now. After that I think he can still do very well because he doesn't just have athletic skills...The dude is smart, and understands how to box. Add to the fact he hasn't boxed that long (so he isn't worn out) if he were to want to I could see him in the role of a BHOP, but not quite as witty. I would say on Martinez's current path of staying active, training hard, taking care of himself, and not taking much abuse in the ring...I'd bet he *could* win a belt at 46.
Doesnt drink, do drugs, he mentioned after a victory doesnt party just has dinner with family and friends. I think up to 40-41 he might be close to his best, but his punch resistance might go down. 5-6 fights if he fights twice a year he'll be okay. Hasnt been in too many wars either.
He's the hungriest figher I have seen in a very long time. Strong mentality and a massive hunger is a big thing in this sport.
If Martinez could speak english, the guy would have the world at his fingertips. Classy, exciting fighter with good looks. Killer combination.
that will last him forever. he's got sexy genes.:good did you see his gay lover in the corner of the malthyse fight? i swear the fat dude with glasses and sergio are lovers. (very homo)
I'm a big Martinez fan, but Martinez takes a lot of shots. His defense has always been his weak point, plus he's too brave for his own good and fights reckless. He's been in some wars. This will catch up to him sooner rather than later. I'd say two or three more fights, then retire to luxury in Argentina.
3/4 fights is my prediction, late 2012 could be the end of this martinez, on the other hand guys like barker wont bother him match
