boxing was massive back then, granted. but don't try to tell me that louis' opponents were good. they weren't. he did beat some good, quality fighters, for sure. but most of them were total waste's of space. the competition during most of joe's reign were abysmal. they didn't call it the bum of the month for nothing.

i saw someone a couple of pages back say " he beat a lot of top ten opponents"...so what. being in the top ten at that time didn't mean you were "world class". it just means that's the best they have to offer at that time.

joe louis was a great fighter, and a great man. but he doesn't have the best resume by a long stretch.

P.S tua at that time was a dangerous, big punching contender. don't try to tell me other wise. it was lennox who made him look like that. lennox was that good.

Can you tell me why exactly a win over a shot Valuev and Ruiz who were both on the verge of retirement is better than a win over a prime Arreola?

both have proven them-self's at world level. arreola hasn't. chris had two opportunities, and failed miserably.

ruiz was at the end of his career, but he wasn't shot. being past your best, and shot, are completely different.

    valuev was shot?

no he wasn't. you may not of thought much of him - but he wasn't shot at all. he was basically in his prime, and a world champ when david beat him.

i agree, ruiz was on the verge of retirement... but valuev wasn't. he's just been inactive since the haye fight. why? that's a different topic.

    need i say anymore?

Ali without question. You want to talk about REALLY fighting the best, Ali did it.
