Floyd and Roy are two of the most gifted boxers that I've seen. It's a tough call between those two. They both have comparable speed. Floyd's power at 130 is also up there with Roy's power at 160. I think Floyd has better awareness, agility, and reaction time. Roy maintained his power as he moved in weight better than Floyd. However, you never know how much the alleged steroid usage played a roll in this.

I don't believe that Mayweather's speed or reaction time prime for prime is the same as Jones.

I agree 100%, Zab is quicker and more powerful than Floyd, but not by that much. In every other category though, Floyd is much better. Floyd has much better awareness, timing, and agility. Floyd's reaction time is better as well.

Head to head, Floyd's speed and reaction time are certainly better. However, Floyd is a smaller, lighter man. This allows his body to move at a faster pace than Jones. P4P though, they're comparable. Floyd's reaction time is pretty amazing. I haven't seen many fighters that dodge and counter as fast as Floyd. Look at some of his fights at 130 and 135. You'll see him snap his head straight back to avoid a jab and counter with a straight right before his opponent can blink.

is timing, agility, and awareness natural talents? I think these can be shaped by environment. And I know speed and power can influenced by environmental factors but when talking about "natural ability" I tend to think of fighters who 'seemed' to have everything but just couldn't put it together. like say a zab judah or shannon briggs.

    boxing vs. fighting...you know.

Awareness, agility, and reaction time are certainly natural talents. Like any other talent, they can be improved upon, but some are always going to be better at it than others.

The thing is you have to look at when you think natural ability. Can any other fighter fight like a Roy Jones or Floyd Mayweather. What really makes us call them p4p top during there respective reigns. Oh, I get it. They do things that make you say "how did they do that" Lighting fast reflexes cannot be taught. Floyd's biggest weapon is his eyes and Sugar Ray said the same thing. His ability to see and deciphyer what is going on and react in a blink without making mistakes. If any other fighter did what he does they would not be undefeated. That is NATURAL TALENT. You can raise 1000 kids to do nothing but box in the style of mayweather. NONE would be as good.

I disagree. P4P, Jones was faster IMO in both reaction time, especially as a counter puncher, along with foot and hand speed. Jones often simply hit fighters after they started a punch with counter hooks, altering their own punches. My guess is that if you started a poll, most would see Jones as the overall faster fighter P4P.

Judah is closer. As was 135 Mosley.

I think floyd has relied on his immense training to become where he is now. his whole fighting style relies on quick counterpunching so it would be easy agree with people saying (since he ISp4p#1) that he is the most naturally gifted fighter. but I think he is far from it. floyd is a boxer...boxing isn't a natural talent..

I totally agree...the figth should have been stop in the 2nd. Pavlik was out of it but it is what it is.

After feb 15, we will nevr hear about Pavlik ever again.

Oh and Money May is the most gifted because unlike Roy, age won't erode his skills.

Did you hear his Royness on FNF last week saying that Money May stole the check hook from him.......Mr. Unknockable is Mr. Laughable

Floyd is the greatest fighter of his era, but clearly Jones has more natural talents than Floyd at any time in their careers. Floyd has the fundamentals which will giving him longevity. Jones' success came with natural abilities. When his reflexes and speed goes he has no fundamentals to fall back on. In his Prime Jones was other wordly. PBF is a great fighter, but he doesn't boggle my mind as Jones did.
