How could Tyson not be regarded as unified after beating Spinks when that title didn't even exist then? And even after it's creation, simply creating a title doesn't mean what you have achieved before is irrelevant. Fact is during the reigns of Tyson, Bowe, Holyfield and Lewis the WBO meant nothing just like the WBU, WBF and IBO belts mean nothing now.

I dispute that Wlad is the champion. I have always rated Vitali higher and think even now he is the superior of the 2 brothers. And just because Vitali refuses to fight his younger brother doesn't mean it illegitimizes his status as a champion.

An undisputed champion is not defined as a man with 3 belts because once there was only the WBA then there was the WBA and WBC and then WBC, WBA and IBF. A man is defined as a champion by holding ALL the major belts whether it be 1, 2, 3 or 4. Wlad does not hold ALL the belts so cannot be regarded as undisputed.

It's different if politics strip you of all the recognised major belts because he never lost them in the ring to an opponent. Had Wlad at some point held all 4 major titles or even the 3 older main titles at a point where the WBO was not recognised then he could lay claim to being undisputed, but he has not, so is clearly not undisputed.

The major belts still hold importance in which Wladimir has 3/4 also the Ring belt and Vitali LOST to Lewis. Wladimir still beat good names to get those belts too, none were gift wrapped for him like Pacquiao's was against Margarito or Alvarez against Matthew Hatton. Not Wlad's fault he nullifies everyone he faces, the man is an artist and the king of the division currently.

So is martinez disputed in your eyes?

Like it or not wlad is the champ and that's all that really matters. Ibf+wba+wbo+ring and the wbc champ has stated he'll never fight him. There really is no dispute pal. Sorry.

Im not trying to discredit Wlads achievements as he is a fine champion. What i am trying to say is that Vitali was the natural heir to Lewis and had it not been for his injuries, he would have been the undisputed HW out there. Vitali has only really lost to 1 guy, and that was an ATG. Until Manny got to Wlad, he was losing against much lesser opponents, that Vitali ended up crushing.

That claim has no merit since he did get injured and it was wlad who cleaned up.

I think that vitali could beat all of joe louis's opponents during his championship reign so let's call him the goat heavyweight.

You don't get it do you. We agree Wlad is excellent. We disagree that he is UNDISPUTEDLY the best, because of his brother.

So, either you think he would walk right through his brother, or, you agree that he is not the undisputed champ.

It is simple. Vitali doesn't dispute that Wladimir is the Undisputed Champion.
And even more, if you wish to dipute it with Vitaly - he will be ready to explain that you are wrong :D

Let's look at this century from a heavyweight perspective

    2000-2004 era of lewis
    2005 year of vitali
    2006- present era of wlad.

During wlad's era he has beaten 4 current heavyweight titlists. The only other man with a belt has said he won't fight him. Where is the dispute?

Same way holmes never held all the belts but noone disputed he was the champion.

Thats exactly what im trying to say. To be undisputed HW champion, he has to either beat Vitali (not happening) or he has to retire.

As for Vitali saying Wlad is the best, that really is a poor excuse. What do you want his BIG BROTHER to say? Wlads got a rubbish chin and id KO him in 6 rounds? Of course he's going to say that as he clearly loves his brother and giving him as much confidence as possible.

The biggest problem is having 2 brother ruling the HW division. There should only be one champion.....

Technically I would say yes. Hopkins was the last champion who held all 4 titles and he lost all the titles to Taylor, who due to the politics of the sport was stripped of the WBA and IBF titles. Taylor lost to Pavlik who in turn lost his titles to Martinez. There is a clear chain from one undisputed champion to another.

Wlad maybe the champion and by most regarded as the best fighter in the division, but it does not make him undisputed. It is disputed by the fact that Vitali holds a title that Wlad has never held at any point and their simply isn't a clear line of succession like with Martinez.

While Wlad holds the majority of the titles it doesn't mean he is undisputed. When Lewis held the WBC and Holyfield held the WBA and IBF at a time when the WBO was not regarded, it did not mean Holyfield was undisputed. He was regarded as the genuine/superior champion but not the undisputed champion.

And as for Vitali choosing not to fight Wladimir that doesn't mean is he is acceding his standing as a champion to Wlad, he simply doesn't want to fight his brother and Wlad I am sure feels the same way. You are purposely misconstruing his staetment to fit your own opinion, that isn't fact, that's just seeing what suits you.

Of course injuries have a lot to do with it. Despite the long layoff, he was still able to batter everyone when he came back. Vitali deserves a lot of respect for taking a back seat to his younger brother.

For me, boxing is largely down to entertainment. Vitali is all-round better for me. Not only can he dominate fights like his brother, but he is also more entertaining. He wont just sit back behind his jab but will try and take the opponent out! That for me is why i will always like Vitali more.

Do you think holmes was undisputed?

I'm not twisting anything i'm not a fan of either brother so have no agenda. When wlad beat byrd, everyone had him ranked number 1. When vitali came back the onus was on him to take wlad's position. Instead wlad beat every belt holder and vitali said he'll never fight him.

If vitali himself doesn't want to challenge wlad's position as champ there's nothing wlad can do.

He might not have 4 belts but noone disputes his claim as champion.

It's about definition. If you take it as holding all belts then he clearly isn't. If you take it as the man being regarded as the true champ i.e. Chavez after beating taylor or nunn after beating kalambay etc.
