I agree. Chagaev was actually the WBA champion until two weeks before their fight. When he substituted for Haye (2009), the WBA decided they wanted to keep their champion, so Valuev magically became champ, despite the fact that Chagaev had already soundly beaten him.

Patterson only had to fight an old Archie Moore to become lineal champ. Burns fought a nobody to become lineal champ. Wlad has basically cleaned out the division..

I also agree that Wladimir was already lineal champion. However, I am not sure about the when aspect. I would say starting from wins over Ibragimov (Feb 2008) or Chagaev (June 2009).

 

He has either been lineal since 2009 or he has to get the wbc strap, I vote the latter

 

He is not lineal, he has never fought let alone beat an undisputed or lineal champion. He has never won the WBC title which means he's never been undisputed. When Vitali retires and he beats whoever picks up that title then he can be regarded as Undisputed and lineal champion. Only a matter of time really there isn't anyone who is going to threaten Wlad.

 

Wlad was lineal champ after beating Ibragimov, given that Vitali was still retired at the time.

Beating Chagaev was the final confirmation.

If Haye retires now then beating Haye is probably not even a Top 5 win for Wlad in terms of legacy.

But I don't think Haye will retire and there may be another Haye-Klitschko match. IMO Haye showed he has the D and chin to be competitive with Wlad and he has a chance at winning against a Klitschko if he can up his game and the Klitschkos decline.
