Is Wlad vs Haye bigger than Lewis vs Tyson

No, Tyson and Lewis were built up over years and it was a real rivalry, how can you build up a fight, when there is nobody out there to beat but each other for Wlad and Haye, the general none boxing fans aren't behind it because they haven't seen either fighter in megafights, sky/HBO werent even showing the klits till recently! Without Hayes mouth this wouldn't even be making the back pages. Everyone says this fight is putting heavyweight boxing back in the headlines, but where do we go from here....??

Its the biggest fight since Lewis-Vitali, which I dont think anyone would realize it would be that big until after the fact.

The only fight I remember having any kind of anticipation since then was Vitali-Peter because everyone was wanting to see how he would be after that layoff and injuries and Peter was overrated and hyped as a puncher.

The names are not as big but I do believe it is a bigger fight. Either guy can win this but back in 2002 Lewis had it to lose, Tyson was never gonna win, especially when you saw his face in the ring entrance, Iron Mike had left Tyson over a decade earlier.

 

Tyson was finished and needed money for his drugs.

Wlad and Haye are both prime versions.

So in my book Wlad vs. Haye > Lewis vs. Tyson

People grew up watching Tyson since he started fighting in the 80's. Most people knew that Tyson was done, but this fight to a alot of people was his final hooora of his super exciting career (captured the belt at the youngest age in history, amazing knockouts, going to jail, screwed by Don King, always in the media).

I remember not being able to watch the fight on PPV, so I went to a sports bar about 45 minutes before the fight began. IT WAS JAMMED PACKED INSIDE and you had to pay to get in. They did have tv's on wall mounts where people could eat outside and watch tv. So many people were outside the bar standing in the driveway watching the tv's. I remember seeing some mexicans that pulled up to watch the fight and none of them could barely speak english, but they knew Mike Tyson! Anyways, there were at least 10 policeman that were outside of the bar making sure the crowd was controlled!

So yeah. I'm sure most people knew that this was going to be his final big battle of one roller coaster ride of a career. And you never knew with Tyson. He still had that ability to land that one big punch.

Tyson was past his prime in fight with Lewis, but his past prime doesn't equal to Hayes prime. In some cases the word "prime" is meaningless.

 

In that Lewis-Tyson fight Tyson at least put up a fight.
So what can be this discussion about?

In terms of significance to the heavyweight division then it is bigger than Lewis/Tyson as Tyson was a spent force by then and never really had a chance.

But in terms of mainstream popularity then it's not even close. Tyson alone earned as much money as both Haye and Wladimir last night.
