David Haye is like a schizophrenic imo, now I dont mean that in a bad way, but, when you listen to him, you think, yeah, down to earth likeable guy, genuine to, but he seemingly goes from one extreme to another. You could hear Haye in one interview where he's being nice, and not think its the same person when he starts being ignorant and disrespectful, which is fair does, I aint got nothing against him or anything, just find it strange how his personality fluctuates. I aint no psychologist or anything, but just found it interesting, probably didn't deserves it own thread, but..
No, it is a quite proper thread. Your instincts are spot-on, just a bit off the diagnosis. David exhibits just about all of the clinical traits of having an extreme narcissistic personality disorder. The build up to the fight and Saturday night's and Sunday's behaviour have been classic NPD. Sunday's Sun interview is a real laugher.
He isn't delusional and doesn't have a personality disorder. If he genuinely believed he was sent from out of space, he'd be delusional. If he had a personality disorder, he wouldn't be a successful pro boxer. The vast majority of winning boxers have self-belief and think positively... Haye has never come across as malicious to me, only likeably immature.
Bollocks, some personality disorder traits are the primary basis for the success of many people in many fields.
Sociopaths are interesting! Anybody with a personality disorder has a lot of personal distress caused by their rigidity in thought process and lack of insight into peoples reactions to their behavior. I don't think David Haye has been a distressed guy all his life, quite the opposite. He's actually a really nice chap with almost too much empathy. The reason he didn't want to be around Wlad in the build-up is because he feared liking him as he likes most people and being friendly with him like he is everyone.
Woah there, have you never heard of Valero? That being said... Haye is fine. He just switches up his behaviour to hype fights -- it's not a complete act, and he must have a nasty side, but he's much more mellow than he may appear in pre-fight build-ups. In this sense, you can compare him to Floyd, although Floyd seems more insecure. If you look at his interview after the fight, you'll see Haye behaving normally, albeit sobered and obviously quite down: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/14007095.stm
