Wlad has the best resume of the last 12 yrs. He has NEVER backed down from a challenge, and except for the injury last Dec he has remained very healthy and active. A feat not many HW can claim. He currently has 56 wins, and will likely pile another 12-15 on top of that, and IMO most all will be vs top 10 guys. He is a beast, and although Vitali may have bested him had he not suffered the confusing back injury which he originally thought was a hammy, he may have even more successive title defenses than Wlad. Injury derailed Vitalis career, but it also has sidelined many a hopeful great. I do hope Vitali can fight on for at least another 2 yrs as he is also my favorite fighter, but his body has felt that injury once, and it aint getting any younger. I have them both in my top 15 ATG HWs, and Vitali could move into the top 10 with 3-4 more successful defenses vs top contenders. Wlad IMO is already a lock for top 10, and could potentially move into the #1-3 spot with 5+ successive defenses against top 15s or better.
nevermind the germanization, this latinization blows. how bout we just copy and paste their ukranian names in their native cyrillic script? btw, Влад (wlad) is better.
Vitali has killer instinct...He would've punished Haye for his cautious style, unlike Wlad who fought, "throw my jab, panic at the frist sight of pressure" style..:-(..VK is miles ahead of his bro...
Wlad's should be better placed in rankings. Head-to-head, they are close, with Vitali winning, but not by much (anyways, we don't know who would win a fight between them). Accomplishments wise, Wladimir is WAY better than Vitali. The balance leans towards Wlad as the better heavy.
I agree that Wlad, in this years, has won a place among the best heavyweight of all time. However, he will never be #1-2 ATG at heavyweight. Ali and Louis won't be moved from those places. In the best case, Wlad will be #3.
Vitali gave us the last great HW fight against Lewis...As Bert Sugar says, Wlad's legacy is being boring...
Wladimir is the better brother. He is the better boxer. Today he fights with brain. This is a result of Emanuel´s work and Wlads losses. Great Champion!
irrefutable? Vitali would've beat Haye's ass so bad his moma wouldn't recognize him. Is it even conceivable that Vitali would not have done better than Wlad against Haye?
Prime for prime Vitali is the better fighter, if they ever fought, Vitali would win, even now while past his best. Vitali has been beaten only once (Byrd loss doesn't count) in a brutal fight against and all time great and has beaten Puritty and Sanders who both have wins against Wlad. I have always rated Vitali highly ever since he brushed aside Hide for the WBO title without even breaking a sweat. Wlad maybe the better natural athlete but he simply doesn't have the instincts of a fighter like his brother, Wlad has admitted this himself. The best thing that happened for Wlad aside from teaming up with Steward was Vitali retiring due to injuries. Had Vitali remained active and not retired in 2004, Wlad would forever have been regarded as a paper champion as at that point he had just been KO'ed by Brewster. Vitali retiring as the top heavyweight left a vacuum at the top of the division which Wlad was able to fill.
All speculation, I would still prefer to watch Vitali fight. That's my preference, but I take nothing away from Wlad, his ring smarts means longevity in a brutal sport, and his domination is epic. But I still like watching Vitali more.
